Slowly paring the collection down (As per Simdor’s good advice) to what I can realistically play and get decent at running:
Prospector (Early Credits and to try out mining…see if I like it)
Star Runner (Trade, Freight, smuggling anyone?)
Vulcan, Starfarer Gemini, Crucible, Reclaimer
(resupply, repairs, salvage…salvage will resupply the Vulcan/Crucible and can refine own fuel… self-sufficient?)
Purchase SRV?
Which might work with my garage setup: tug derelicts and repair or salvage at homebase… if that gets implemented of course.
F7A-M Super Hornet (Escort /Interdiction)
Yellowjacket*
BMM*
Redeemer*
600i*
Buy vehicles in game for credits… since as ProfX said, they appear to be much cheaper in game
One thing that i often forget is that I only need enough to have a smooth start in the game. I can earn the rest there. Also, buying too many ships cuts out part of the progression in the game.
In short, dont be me and keep buying the shiny new ships.
Exactly, since we were/are collecting over years and getting quite the fleet over time. I probably should wither down again…just need a moment to build the courage to let go of the shiny ships.
Honestly outfitting these ships with the best gear will be a chore in itself. Overhead will be huge. At least now I can collect the vehicles and smaller ships in game and find what I like, if I even want to.
Really, I could probably go down to the Prospector, Vulcan, Redeemer and MSR and never notice…
Hehe, I have been trying to do just that. So far this sale/event I have been strong of will (or something like that) and didn’t buy/upgrade/melt or otherwise spend any money. I am actually strongly considering turning my big ships into smaller ships and starting off with smaller stuff I can handle earlier on, but the problem lies in my big ships are part of packages and short of melting the packages I am not sure how to melt the individual ships down to store credit or something.
I’ve done it before. You do have to melt the package. You cannot melt individual ships within the package. So this is something you need to plan ahead of time and do during one of the sales. Like I grabbed 4 of the Carrack fighter packages when they were introduced with LTI. And then I melted the package for store credit, and then used the store credit to upgrade three of the fighter packages back up to the ships that I had wanted to keep from the package.
I like your suggestiong, but I looked into melting my packages and I lose value big time on my packages if I melt them, mostly because of upgrading individual ships in the packages over time. I think I am just going to sit on what I have for now and hope they focus more on at least getting SQ42 out and less on making more ships to sell.
I know that I have some work to do on my fleet. I have an extra Pisces Expedition that i got on accident, I don’t need both the black and the freelancer, and would like to change out the warden. If i melt those 3 i could get any fighter i would like. On the other hand, they all have LTI so i could use them for tokens. I forgot that i also had an Arrow that I can use for a token.
I forget the name of the latest fighter they showed this year but i could probably melt and ccu my way into one with the extras to round out and trim my fleet.
Well I would check to see what the package is valued at currently. I know the value of the package I did melt took into account all the upgrades I had done on the individual ships in it. The only thing i lost out on was if a ship in the package was valued more now than when I got the package as in that case the value I got from it was from the time I bought the package ( as an example the carrack in the expidtion package was sold about 450, but the price had gone up to 550 at the time I was going to melt the package. So I ended up only getting the 450 value rather than the current 550.
That’s exactly why I couldn’t get rid of my Carrack. It was in a UEE Exploration Pack with the Force-1 and the Terrapin, but I could only get 510$ melting the whole pack. The carrack alone is worth 600$ currently, so I had to use the other ships as LTI tokens. But as I am looking to avoid high crew needs its unlikely I can make the carrack into anything suitable…too high up the price range.
@Strangetides I feel ya. My Carrack is currently in a UEE Exploration 2948 pack along with a Cyclone RN, Mercury Star Runner, Vanguard Warden and an Eclipse (yeah I did some ship swapping with this pack). If I melt the pack I get $830 which is well below the value of all those ships.
If I melt my Rear Admiral pack currently with the Orion, I get $375…which sucks.
The big ships are cool, but I feel like I maybe I don’t need them to start with and should have gone with more smaller ships. Well it is what it is in my hangar for now.
I’m even thinking too many small ships with different characteristics and flight styles would prevent me getting really good at any of them… I suspect I will figure out my favorites and many will be mothballed…
I suppose I can hope I find the perfect group of like minded people who play at the same timeframe I can regularly and we can actually form a crew on a ship long term… then some of those big ships might become do-able
Hanging on to the Carrack is not a bad thing.
Both short term and long term.
Currently it is one of the 2 ships flyable in game that has a hangar for snubs and a bay for ground vehicles, the other being the 890.
In the long term it will be one of if not the best small crew exploration ships in the game. Second only to the DUR for capability vs crew requirement.
It is a low crew requirement for its size and capabilities which makes it a keeper.
All in all, even if it doesn’t fit your theme right now, the Carrack is a great ship to hang on to especially if you got it for under current cost.
Think of it kinda like you would the BMM. You may not need it but you sure as don’t want to melt it.
I am planning on getting into the gameplay once I put together my new computer build after the freaking case decides to show up. Out of all the stuff I ordered at the same time for my new build everything has arrived but the case, which is taking waaay too long to get here.
Maybe someone can answer this question for me. Is it possible to sell stuff you mined with the Orion straight out the the Orion’s storage pods? I seem to vaguely remember reading some stuff somewhere about mining and hauling and such in the past and that since the Orion can’t land on planets the ore needs to be transferred to a ship that can land on planets to sell ore. This is the sole reason I got a Hull-C, to sell off m7 hauls from the Orion. I would straight up upgrade the Hull-C to a BMM or something else if I don’t really need it to sell Orion hauls.
Im not sure but i think that as for right now it will probably just dock with a refinery station’s coller and unload that way. I expect it to change but its all speculation on my part. I also think i heard that mention of is that the containers on the Orion could be the same as on the Hull series and could be be dropped and loaded onto one. That one is wild rumor at best though.
Sounds like something i’ll have to check out when it hits live. Also since they are working on tractor beams, if they get them to a place where they like it then could we expect to see more progress on the Orion? Perhaps the Cat will get its beams?
