Natural Ambition is a super valuable ancestry feat for a human PC - I would definitely consider taking it if you havenāt already (you can only take it once) as class feats are usually more powerful than ancestry feats.
Not sure if items from the lost omens world guide are open for us or not - but https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=869 might be useful to those of you that donāt have a deity and get smacked a lot during our outings - reduces battle medicine timer from one day to one hour.
So the GM has seriously miscalculated the amount of space required to populate with encounters that will:
- a) tell the story that needs to be told
- b) provide enough āxpā to finish the adventure
As in weāve got too much space to fill.
Weāve got:
- The Micky Mouse castle, two floors
- The Drow castle, two floors + veranda
- The ginormous Drow tower, n floors
So um⦠a lot of itās gonna be empty and/or have unopenable doors and invisible walls and shit.
You could just have them have REALLY REALLY THICK WALLS. cackle

Ok, so here is where I am at on the character to replace Malinar while he recovers from his death experience.
Dwarf - I know big surprise there. Warrior which I was leaning towards at the end of the session on Thursday.
Up until yesterday I was going to go maul and just try to be a heavy hitter. But then while out doing chores this morning I realized that with the fact our equipment has a tendency to lag behind our levels that I was just going to flirt with losing another character even without needing have bad dice rolls, So Iāve change my plans.
For third level he is going to be warhammer and shield in Full plate. At fourth level he is going to ditch the shield and replace it with his clan dagger (parrying) in his off hand. Main reason for that is all I ever use the shield for is AC bump when raised. I never really bought into the concept of using the shield to absorb damage because I could never really rationalize being able to adequately repair a damaged shield out in a dungeon somewhere in 10 minutes or less. And I donāt plan to pull a cart of replacement shields behind me.
He is dipping into cleric at 2nd level. But I only plan on taking one other feat at 6th from cleric. So he will have access to a couple of cleric cantrips and that is all. Beyond that he is going to be specializing in intimidation, Athletics and religion.
Thatās all I have at his point. Iāll work up a name and the history and such before Thursday I hope. And if I can shake the time free Iāll have him prebuilt in my copy of FGU and able to just upload him and be set.
I am building him with no thought of what is in the party inventory. So Iāll be buying him the +1 rune at creation. I would say work out what the party is selling, and give Malinar his cut before this guy joins you. Depending on the amount of the split, if @rando feels the party wealth level is higher than the starting amount I am using (75 gold) he can feel free to throw me a few extra coins if he wants. /smirk. The rune and the plate is going to take most of that amount I am pretty sure. So he will not have a lot of extra equipment when he joins.

I am more than willing to throw some money to the new warrior to help him get geared up enough so he has a fighting chance. So far my weapon upgrade has come by way of loot getting that +1 Halberd so I should have at least a bit of coin to spare.
I am not sure if I am going to swap out the potency rune on the halberd for a striking run or not. I am thinking I will at this point because I can give the weapon the +1 to hit potency rune effect with my Magus Potency focus spell. The extra damage from the striking rune would be better at this point as I donāt know if my Magus Potency stacks with rune effects or not. I am assuming it does as it does not add a rune or replicate a rune, just the effects. Then again, if I keep the potency rune on there that should give me a +2 to hit with the rune and the Magus Potency. At heightened 3rd Magus Potency gives the weapon the +1 striking rune effect and at heightened 4th itās +2 striking. Then again again if I understand runes correctly you can have more than one fundamental rune (i.e. striking, potency) on a weapon even if the runes are only +1 and not +2ā¦am I wrong or am I right? If so right now I could add a striking rune to the halberd and have the potency and striking rune effects on the halberd as well as my Magus Potency buff. I have been reading around, but so far I find nothing that tells me if the Magus Potency effect stacks with rune effects.
The only thing I think I really need to buy right now (aside from some more healing pots) is an armor rune. But I see we canāt get any armor runes until starting at lvl 5. I will get more defensive at lvl 5 and 6 when I get an armor rune and I get the Magus focus spell Spell Countermeasures.
On a different note, I am investing in Crafting, more specifically Alchemical Crafting currently and picking up Magical Crafting at lvl 4. Anyone else investing in crafting? If so we could work it out so we have different aspects of crafting covered. For now letās figure out what kind of potions I can make for the party now that weāre all getting some money I can spend some on ingrediants to make some more pots and who knows what else?
Well, I am once again unsure as to whether or not to push ahead with creating my Dhampir Undead Sorcerer or sticking with Eonwyn/Eonyn/Eowyn my Elf Universalist Wizard.
If I stay with my wizard, she will be maxing Arcana, Crafting and Society. For crafting, I would definitely be taking magical crafting. That is something I feel like a wizard would be good at but I also think itās okay and probably helpful if more than one member of the party is dedicated to that, especially since we always seem to be short on downtime.
On the other hand If I go with my undead sorcerer, she will be maxing Intimidation, Diplomacy, and Deception and doing a lot of Demoralize actions in combat. I feel like thatās what a dhampir undead sorcerer would do. They would say āBoo!ā a lot. Also, I think its okay and probably helpful if more than one person wants to invest in these skills because for example, with Demoralize the target becomes immune for 10 minutes to the specific user. So we could make multiple attempts on the same monster.
I will say that each of these two characters scratches a different āitchā that I have so I will likely be in limbo for another day or two.
Ryu,
Just to let you know. Weapons and armors can have one of each type of Fundamental runes. The number of property runes an item can have is related to the value of the potency rune on it. For example a +1 potency rune allows only one property rune. +2 potency rune allows 2 property, and +3 etc.
But you cannot use the first striking rune until level 4.
Mith
Yeah I read up a bunch to refresh my memory so I am caught up on runes. I read further about Magus and from what I can gather Magus Potency does not stack as it replicates a rune effect either potency or striking so Magus Potency is now worthless at this point. At By the time it heightens-4th to do the +2 striking effect at lvl 7 it will become useful again for awhile as we canāt get access to +2 potency until lvl 10 so I will be ahead of the curve in that regards. At heightened-7th (lvl 13) the effect becomes that of +3 greater striking which is semi-useful as we can get greater striking at lvl 12, but canāt get +3 potency until lvl 16. I might be able to save some gold this way buy not having to buy runes at certain points.
Hmmm, I am looking at things anew after seeing the lvl requirements and price on property runes that are worthwhile. I will be getting the Magus feat Runic Impression; I wasnāt going to get it, but now it seems much handier. Runic Impression lets me replicate the effect of certain property runes being : corrosive, flaming, frost, ghost touch, returning, shifting, shock, or thundering. At heightened-7th (lvl 13) I add keen to the list or runes I can replicate as well as the greater versions of corrosive, flaming, frost, shock, and thundering which becomes a good boon as we donāt get access to the greater versions of those runes until lvl 15 and also those runes are expensive.
And to make the healerās life eaiser later on, at lvl 10 I get Healerās Steel, whenever I use the Sustaining Steel synthesis I get a small self-heal on top of the temp HP provided by Sustaining Steel, this small self-heal is twice the lvl of the spell slot used. This only procs when I cast an actual spell with Striking Spell /Sustaining Steel, but it will still help.
Well I just finished creating Rasinar Battlehammer in FG. I was able to do a decent job kitting him out after buying the plate, rune and his weapon. He doesnāt have much in the way of loose currency so I have a feeling he will have a camp outside of town when he is not at the festival. I think his general plan at this point is to hire himself on as a caravan guard for any group that was heading in the general direction he currently wants to head to once the festival is over (I have no idea at the moment where that is though).

Maedhros can certainly spot you coin for food, drink and a room at an inn once he joins us.
On a completely different note, barring getting any unique or special medium armor as loot or a reward, I am likely wearing the only armor I will every wear. I have scale mail and there is no reason for me to bump up to chain mail or breastplate in medium armor would be for the armor specialization effects, but the Magus never get armor specialization, that is something available to a scant few classes/archetypes like Fighter and Sentinel. Iāll just be adding runes to the armor I already have.
Also, Iāll definitely be crafting some Cheetahās Elixirs for the new dwarf.
Oh this dwarf will have no movement penalties in Plate, and he is taking fleet at 3rd so he will have standard move of 25. I learned my lessons from Malinar with his arriving late to things. My damage wonāt be as large as his but Iāll get more chances to hit if I get into combat sooner and I have the AOO as a fighter.
I have re-thought a few things though. I went back to Shield and am going to not do the two weapon thing. I was investing too many feats to make me comfortable when I get shield use for free. And I am going to have two planned builds that diverge at level 4. One is going to be fighter concentration heavy and the other will have him dipping more heavily into cleric. Iāll see how things go to get through to level 4 and then pick which path he will follow going forward.
Mith
I thought about it some more and decided that I will stick with my wizard.
There are a few changes I would like to change but mostly this is the same character: Elf Universalist Wizard. Might change heritage to Cavern Elf to get dark vision. Will change thesis to spell substitution.
For my class feats it will probably be : reach spell, widen spell, and cantrip expansion. My second level skill feat will be trick magic item so I can use the second healing wand.
Also, Iām going to put off crafting til later so Mhaedros can focus on that and I can focus on Arcana and Society.
For my spell prep, this time I am planning: 1) Magic Missile, Grease, Mage armor and 2) Burning Hands, Hideous Laughter.
PS - Wow that is almost starting to look like a legit spell list
PPS - Eonwyn is going to change her name to something more in the Quenya vein. Elves be crazy like that!
Awww man you spelled Maedhros wrong! Thatās -1 point towards your score to the Dragonkin partnerbond in the Starfinder game. ā¦
I keeed I keeeeed.
Haha, sorry about that! I shouldāve gotten Maedhros right, especially because of his namesake in Tolkien lore!!
I am not sure if I will be playing Thursday or not at this point. Iām experiencing a real family crisis and I just donāt know what is gonna happen or how it is gonna turn out. Iāll keep you guys posted.
Sorry to hear that @Ryuken. I hope things get better soon!
