[Finished] PF2 - Forgotten Realms Heroic Romp (Thurs 8-11 EDT)

As a cavern elf you live in simple-ass caves. You are not bright enough to live in the sunlight and not dark enough to make it in the Underdark. :smirk:

The ilythiiri followed Araushnee. They have been caught in some form of time warp for us to meet them, since that diety turned into Lolth many millennia ago and their race evolved into the drow.

Simple? Ass?!

Pshaw! Ignorant surface dweller!!

We cavern elves live in enormous caves filled with all sorts of marvels: towering stalagmites that reach hundreds if not thousands of feet into the darkness, vast forests of mushrooms and crystal, waterfalls of heights no human has seen plunging to lakes of the deepest, clearest water, illuminated by constellations of glow worms on the cathedral like roof, like stars in a quiet winter night.

So… anyone have any special requests for my spellbook when we hit level 3?

For Eonyn’s first 2 second level spells, I was kind of thinking:

  1. Animated Assault - seems like a good way to bring the pain in a dungeon choke point while Malinar, Maedrhos (sp?), and Torvad are going HAM in melee.

  2. Enlarge - Make one of the melee folks bigger and hit harder

  3. Blur - I found this to be a really great self-defense spell back in our Age of Ashes campaign last year.

  4. Dispel Magic - In my limited experience, this seems like one that you don’t need until you really need it.

I have no real preference from Malinar’s perspective. He gets his Blade ally at 3rd. And I will be having it set up most of the time as returning. That way I can have my warhammer of Throwing (the cheese version) so I will be able to join combat sooner even though I am much slower movement wise than the rest of you.

@Mithinar was right (as usual). I just started (cyberpunk) character number nine. I still haven’t finished more than 30% of the main story.

Hmmm, my record for predicting things are getting a little scary even to me… Anyone know a good exorcist (Non denominational of course)?

You should have played on Oracle.

lvl3 is going to be a little Meh for Torvad with the exception of my general feat. I’m thinking of taking ā€œassuranceā€ for my acrobatics. That should help my tumble through (to gain panache) much more reliable and I might be able to help a bit more with flanking as well.

Thoughts?

Here’s a guide on the pros and cons of taking assurance that might help :slightly_smiling_face:

@ocelot I’m torn as to what suggestion to make.

  1. Animated Assault - I feel like this would be a circumstantial spell depending on what is around to animate. I guess it is up to the DM to determine what is available to animate. But I like this one for sustained damage as well as AoE damage and it would certainly play well with choke points.

  2. Enlarge - Eh I don’t like this spell in PF 2e, it kinda sucks compared to the D&D 5e version. The damage bonus is only +2 at regular cast and the affected targe also becomes Clumsy 1, which is not a good trade off for +2 damage to me.

  3. Blur - I like this better than the D&D5e version because you can target others with it, in 5e is is only self-target. I feel this is a good contingency spell to cast on someone if they are getting hammered.

  4. Dispel Magic - Yeah this is one of those rarely used spells that I think is better at later levels when we run into heavier magic users.

I’m really not sure which one to suggest. I would say Blur or Animated Assault at this point.

Lvl 3 is fairly meh for me too. I have the character planned out for the build mostly, I don’t remember what I am picking up at lvl 3, I think I was going to take Incredible Initiative. I pondered picking up Advanced Melee Weapon Proficiency to use that whip sword, but I am thinking it is a waste to spend a general feat to use one weapon.

Lvl 4 is where the Magus picks up steam and doesn’t slow down from there. At Lvl 4 I am getting Bespell Strikes, which adds an extra 1d6 damage to an attack made with the weapon I use Striking Spell on. Lvl 6 I get Martial Caster which lets me add specific utility spells to my repertoire at various lvls. At Lvl 8 I am either getting Runic Impression, which lets me temporarily replicate the effects of a weapon rune on my weapon, or Spell Countermeasures which gives me a handy reactionary defensive focus spell providing AC and saving throw bonus and damage resistance 5 vs. the spell’s damage…probably gonna get Spell Countermeasures…it’s just too damn handy and good.

So yeah, I’m really waiting until lvl 4.

I figured out what I wanted to do when Rando mentioned this 20 days ago - unfortunately I’ve slept since then and not at a Holiday Inn Express so I’m at a loss of what to do for level 3 :man_shrugging:

if ya’ll have any healer wish list items speak now

I don’t have any special requests @Airen. You and I might want to coordinate somewhat on who will be taking certain utility spells though, at least in cases where there is overlap between the divine and arcane spell lists. Dispel magic is a good example… though Eonyn will probably wait until 4th level to learn that one.

@Ryuken, speaking of Bespell Weapon, I always thought that feat was kind of useless but now I can see that it would be pretty nice to have on a Magus. As a matter of fact, Eonyn thinks Maehdros is a pretty cool guy and has been trying to figure out how to emulate some of his sword techniques.

@Rando, when we get back to town, I want to retrain whatever crummy ancestry feat I currently have slotted for Elven Weapon Familiarity. I also want to buy a longsword and retrain one of my 1st level class feats to Hand of the Apprentice.

The level 2 and 4 feats for wizards are kind of lackluster so this way it feels like picking up Bespell Weapon at level 4 could actually be useful. HotA is a focus spell unfortunately and not a cantrip but since it requires only 1 action I should be able to cast a regular spell, bespell my longsword, and hurl the longsword at any enemy wih HotA making for a fairly impactful round.

So, just to confirm, dungeon master - I assert that Eonyn can carry a longsword in one hand, a staff in the other (page 592 in CRB) and still cast spells with somatic components (page 303 in CRB). This is gonna be so cool. :sunglasses:

Also, I would like to retcon my heritage from Seer Elf to Cavern Elf por favor! :grimacing:

So you’re going to be the elven version of Gandalf…so Gandelf.

The Bespell Strikes feat is the Magus version of Bespell Weapon and, to my mind, it is the best feat out the available lvl 4 Magus class feats.

So Eonwyn wants to learn some sword technique from Maehdros eh? Well see how he preforms tonight before you get set on that because my sword technique seems to be hit or miss so far with seemingly higher percentage of miss :smirk:

Touche.

Well, what can I say, those scenes in the Hobbit with Gandalf investigating Dol Guldur were pretty epic!

Eh, since I have the day off today I guess I will just spend it figuring out alternate character builds and concepts :joy:

I could be prepping for tonight, but I’m a samurai with an entire city to burn.

@ocelot - Thanks that was very enlightening. sounds like I’d be better off trying to get my acro to Expert for the situation bonuses given we’re looking long term on these characters.

So I have a few alternatives…
For my Skill Increase, I can increase my Acrobatics (to expert if it’s not already there) to help my bonus on my Tumble Through, otherwise, I might take trained in medicine

For my General Feat, I’m thinking like this.

  • Ancestral Paragon (general-2) - grants a level-1 ancestry feat
  • Natural Ambition (ancestry-1) - grants a level-1 class feat
  • Tumble Behind (class-1) - a successful Tumble Through grants Flat-footed bonus for my next Attack that turn

OR I could take Natural Skill (ancestry-1) - and gain 2 more trained skills…
