As Brohawk mentioned there are definitely highly annoying lag spikes even with the additional starting zones. But you can at least log in now and get your toon setup and saved for later use.
Yes, it makes you choose a Family Name.
Yes, you start out mostly bald and your hair will grow over time.
Yes, if you played ARK you’ll already know all the controls blindfolded and how to harvest/build/survive.
No, the chatbox can’t be turned off so you’ll have to see all the immature kiddo chat
Yes, there is serious rubber banding, but if you can make it through the starter zone and get your raft to get onto the main map supposedly it gets better.
Yes, death is the same as in ARK. If you want to re-reroll your toon just find a way to kill yourself and then you get the option of respawning or rolling a brand new toon. It takes about 10 minutes to drown yourself on the starter map.
If you start in the eastern Tropical area, you’ll feel right at home if you ever played the original ARK map.
When you start the game I recommend starting in a lawless zone and not a freeport. The rubberbanding in the freeports made the game unplayable for me. I found the lawless areas much more playable.
so sailed south from the southern island. zoned, crashed, put me back in the same zone, but starving so i jumped and drowned my self. selected home area and it put me on the east island…same newb zone
but I will not quit!
I did read somewhere that you can get up to level 8 in the starter zone, and they recommend having plenty of food and water with you before you set sail on your raft to escape the noob area. A rubber banding loop sailing would definitely be an issue.
I made a bed but wasn’t given the option to respawn on it. I respawned three islands over. I feel like this game expects you to have played a lot of ARK, I have no idea what’s going on and there’s little to no instruction, just a lot of frustration.
Very true. ARK was the same way in the beginning. Trial and error, lots of error. Starvation, dehydration, constant death and losing your inventory if you can’t find your dead body to loot, sad pet deaths… at the same time it was frustrating it’s also what made ARK a fun survival game. It will get easier once we get a foothold and can start claiming land and building houses and watching each others backs. Instead of dying 100 times a day it will go down to 4-5.
In the beginning you do a ton of annoying harvesting and crafting and leveling up. Dying a few hundred times in the process. As you grow you’ll be able to build better/stronger weapons and housing, and if it’s like ARK your future pets will eventually do your harvesting for you. It gets better, promise.
There’s now a few of us that are level 8 and stocked our rafts ready to sail off the starter island in search of land to claim. There seems to be random issues with bed spawning if you die, so be prepared to possibly be sent back to a starter area after sailing away.
Before you blindly set sail, remember to stock up plenty of food (the 4 vitamin categories fruits/cooked meat/vegetables/cooked fish) and have several waterskins filled with fresh water before departing (or, just die along the way and hope you spawn back on your raft bed).
On their rafts most people are putting a campfire, bed, storage chests filled with resources (remember to put a pin code on it, thieves are around!), and a chair to sit for fishing (needs a fishing rod and sap drag/dropped on the fishing pole for bait).
If anyone makes it to a decent area and is able to claim land, please post a map so that others can attempt to get near. Thanks!
