What's in YOUR Fleet?

Yeah that is obvious. I mean you do not even have a Jav in there…

:stuck_out_tongue:

Ugh, ZERO interest in that big hunk o’junk. I’ll be surprised if my Idris ever see’s space, honestly. My Pioneer will see the most use of my big ships, followed likely by the Orion and Reclaimer

Hehe, yeah I was messing with ya since we had talked about that last year at CitCon.

I actually put my Pioneer back into my fleet recently because I can see the value in renting it out to small orgs for base building. Also, it is kinda a cool thing to be able to drop a base wherever you want to.

My Kraken will definitely see space, as will most of my ships. But never without escort.

I have visions of dropping the Pioneer and the Kraken/Merchant on a planet and providing merchant services while building out my colony

Poli is actually a HH+CCU which is there, but not applied
And 600i(e) is actually a hawk+CCU which again is purchased but not applied

600ie, mercury, cutlass for a daily runner to get around
pioneer and reclaimer for when I need to cash grind
poli for just going around spanking shit for a laugh
Carrack, because
Cat, because
then things to pew pew and zip around

No masive org ships, I should be able to do this with 1-2 clan mates and NPC

ok, now that my anniversary sale purchasing is complete and I have crossed into Wing Commander status, I figure I may as well update this one last time. I think I am probably done here, but I have said that quite a few dollars ago…

Here is my fleet, as is right now without CCU orr Buyback applied:

And here it as after CCU and Buyback applied:

I probably would not apply ALL of the CCUs as shown, because swapping the Eclipse for a MOLE just isnt for me, but I wanted the option just in case.

Anyway, I think I am pretty much done. Only thing that might catch my eye (or wallet) would be a nice heavy fighter that doesn’t require a second seat (ie gunner) for use of all of the guns.

I just melted my entire fleet this past weekend (except for a standalone A2) and subsequently purchased a Praetorian Pack. Was going to post a fleet pic but decided to wait until I have applied the CCUs I still need to purchase for ships not available at the moment. I also have both versions of the Kraken in buyback, but I’m not sure which version I will reclaim. I like the concept of the Privateer, but the new pack also includes a Merchantman which might turn out to be a more flexible option. I will definitely be reclaiming one of the two, however.

The good news is I dont have much in the way of ship envy. There is a lot to keep track of though. I just hope that for giggles i can take what ever ship i want into any mission. I want to ability to take my Javelin for groceries if i feel like it.

I could see people doing the claim jumpers mission with one just for kicks. (I totally would)

edit: Thinking about it. taking a Javelin to go deliver a pizza…

When do you all predict that CCU will be abolished?
I have a couple of CCU I like, but I suspect the game will be released before I know whether or not to apply them

CCUs will be valid until Beta starts, and there will be plenty of warning before that happens.

As far as how long before Beta…nobody knows but it will be at least another year minimum.

I currently have:
Dragonfly, X1, MPUV Cargo, 85X, Terrapin, Vulture, F7A-M Super Hornet, Cutlass Blue, Prospector, Freelancer MIS, Hull B, Redeemer, Retaliator, Carrack, Starfarer Gemini, Merchantman, Reclaimer
All LTI (+Nova Tank)

F7A Military Hornet Upgrade (Is this compatible with the Super Hornet?)

Any suggestions or holes to fill in the lineup? I have been out of the loop on changes lately.

Yes the F7A upgrade will work on the super hornet

Determining the best fleet is all about knowing what you want to do in the verse.
Usually I tell people there is the short term what to do and the long term what to do.

In the short term, you can go a couple of directions.

  • Mining
  • Cargo Hauling
  • Bounty Hunting aka assassinations
  • Combat Missions

IN the long term there is a lot more coming that you will be able to focus on as your primary profession.
Things like scavenging and salvage, fuel harvesting and refueling, repairs, exploration, medical, etc.

Figure out what sounds fun to you and I can help you build a fleet around that.

Based on what you have, it looks like a lot of what you want to do is combat with exploration and cargo hauling as secondary.

The Terrapin is a hard ship to justify in my opinion. It is expensive and has little to offer for the high price tag.
The Carrack is excellent, but its primary game loop is not in yet so it is just a big cargo hauler for now.
The Gemini wont be in game for some time, and is all about passenger service.
The Reclaimer is still waiting on salvage game loops to be in, so it is pretty useless right now.
The Merchantman is just starting to be worked on, but should be an interesting alien ship. It is also one that I would say you should never ever get rid of.
The Redeemer is getting its rework soon ™
The Retaliator is good in theory but I think it will lose a lot of its modularity in the near future.
Prospector is mining for the solo pilot.
Cutlass Blue is likely to be in 4.0 and is looking like a solid medium sized combat fighter.

So you have a big mix of ships. Not a bad thing, just an observation.

Take a hard look at what you really want to do in the verse and let me know, then we can tailor what you should do to make the best fleet.

Dragonfly, X1 (Basic transport space and ground)

Vulture, Reclaimer (Early game credits with vulture, learning curve into later game Reclaimer) -

Prospector (Early game credits, learning curve)

MPUV Cargo, Hull B (Mid game credits)

Starfarer Gemini (Mid game credits) refueling fleets, processing fuel, fuel hauling

Carrack (Mid game exploration)

F7A-M Super Hornet, Cutlass Blue (Escort capability) Blue is a nice starter ship

Retaliator - (Will likely trade this in – got it originally for its modularity and as an ex-military its survivability)
Terrapin – was to explore but seems to have changed in purpose now.
85X - (Bought to hold the LTI for upgrading possibly later)

Freelancer MIS (Uncommon (so unexpected) and can be inexpensive ship killer with expensive missile load out)
Redeemer (Rare and if they follow the past changes when they finalize it, it will likely go up in size and armament… we’ll see)
Merchantman (Rare and interesting to see where it goes)
Nova Tank (Not sure how easy this will be to get later, and ground escort etc.)

So early game (starting out) will likely be prospecting and salvage, small cargo delivery. As my credits and experience build move into cargo and fuel and as a break do some exploring.

Maybe Terrapin to Mole? Any difference with the subscribers version?
C8X Epedition?
Miss my Aquila but it seemed extraneous with the Carrack
I replaced my Hull C with the Banu

So, you have an excellent start over many here because you at least have an idea of what you want to do in the verse. That is great!

Couple of quick comments:

  • Vulture/Reclaimer - I really like how you are thinking here. Start smaller, work your way to larger. The larger ships are going to cost significantly more to operate so this is a smart plan.
  • MPUV Cargo and Hull B - The only problem here is that the MPUV is a parasite ship. It has no quantum capabilities at all. Meaning it has to live on another ship/station to be of any use. And the Hull Line cannot carry ships. Well, not hangar style. You could, supposedly and eventually, crate up the MPUV and carry it with you then uncrate it at another location but that is not something they have talked about in a long time and it would be incredibly inefficient. That said, I really love the MPUV ships and would say it is worth hanging on to for later, even though it will likely be very easy to pick up in game too.
  • Totally agree about the Blue. It will be an excellent escort ship and solid for early game and long after. Good choice.
  • Same with the Super Hornet. While it is not a personal favorite, I do think it makes for a very versatile fighter. Right now in the current build it has some shield hole issues and is a bit underpowered for where it is supposed to be but that will be fixed most likely in 4.0 or 4.1.
  • Not a fan of the Retaliator, never have been. It is a decent bomber but just doesn’t live up to the hype. However, if you do keep it you will have giant torpedoes to bow things up and that is always a plus.
  • Terrapin - it has not changed in purpose it was just very poorly presented at concept. They sold it as a SAR ship but it is not that at all. It would work well in tandem with something like a Cutlass Red for SAR but then if you had the Red and its scanners you would not need the Terrapin to begin with. I say use it as an upgrade if you have it with LTI or if you have more upgrade value in it than what you spent on it.
  • Freelancer MIS is actually very common despite the lore. It is one of the better combat ships to fly now so many have been buying them and using them for things like bounty hunting. I think this will change over time and people will view it as less of the meta, but it will always be a strong gunship.
  • Redeemer - wondering what they will do with this. They talked about it being less dropship more gunship since the Valkyrie came along to fill the role of dropship (and does it well). We will see but I have one for the same reason, it seems like it will be a good gunship and I am curious where it will go.
  • Merchantman - never, ever, ever get rid of this ship. First, the lore states that these are hard to come by because they are handed down within the Banu clans from leader to leader. So I read that as HUGE faction grind to get one in game later. Second, it is a space bazaar. Who doesn’t want one of those!?!?
  • 85x - This is actually a stronger snub fighter than people realize. It has a second seat, the only snub that does, and that seat can take control of the belly turret as a remote turret. That is a lot of fighting power in a little luxury ship. I say unless you just need to use this as an LTI token, hang on to it.

So with all of that, what should you change?

Well, as I said at the start, your plan to use smaller ships to work cash up into funding the operation of the larger ships is absolutely the right idea. You might want to focus on one or two roles instead of being quite so spread out, but even that is not so bad.
Let’s look at the roles you do have ships to fill:

  • Salvage: Starting with a smaller salvage ship to work up to the larger salvage ship is not only good for generating funds but it will also allow you to build faction in that profession with the right people as you work toward bigger and better jobs. Remember, the one stat that we all have to work up is faction and that includes faction with junkyards that resell the salvage that we pick up in space. However, I might recommend the Vulcan instead of the Vulture. I was interested in the Vulture up until I read the concept info on it and found out that you have to get out of the ship and hand collect the salvage items. My reaction was “WTF?!?!”. If I have to do all of that why not just use a ship like the Vulcan with a couple of salvage drones and similar cargo space AND it can double as a repair and refuel ship when I am not doing salvage. Just something to think about.
  • Mining: Prospector is perfect for getting into mining with minimal investment and maximum reward. If you decide that you really enjoy mining you can always pick up a Mole or even an Orion later.
  • Cargo: One of the most straightforward ways to make money. There is always some risk involved, but overall a safe and easy way to make money. The nice thing is that you can use any ship with a cargo hold for this purpose. So your Carrack can be a cargo hauler, albeit an expensive one. I would say the Hull B is ok for this, but it has the external pods for cargo so it is less versatile than something like the Caterpillar. Even if you just want something smaller to haul with, I recommend looking for a secure cargo ship over anything in the Hull line. The Gemini also makes a damn good cargo ship and you can use the fuel tanks for hauling fuel at the same time.
  • Exploration: Carrack is the premiere explorer, and comes with Pisces shuttle. No reason to own anything else unless you want something smaller and more economical to do exploration early on. If so I would say swap your Hull B for a Freelancer DUR so you can dual role as cargo and exploration.
  • Combat: You have a nice array of combat ships here. The F7A-M will serve you well as a fighter, the Blue as a medium fighter/ multi crew patrol ship and the MIS and Redeemer as your larger combat ships.

Overall I think you have your bases well covered and with just a couple of tweaks that I mentioned you should be all set.

Hope that is in some way helpful. Best of luck and don’t hesitate to shout if you ever need a hand.

See you in the verse.

Wow, I feel that my fleet is rather small. Just got back into it since it was Star Hanger. Just before all the current outside world stuff started happening. Let’s see…3 ships, but it’s a nice spread and low cost.
Origin 315p 6month ins. an upgrade to the initial 300i purchased back in 2013.
Aegis Avenger Titan, LTI
Drake Cutlass Black, LTI
My thought process is that the game is still years off and I haven’t been doing a lot yet. Just really figured out how to fly and such.
The 315p can scoot around and has cargo space for 12. Exploring hasn’t gotten into the game yet, so just using it for box runs.
The Titan is just a good all-around ship. You can do small cargo runs, box runs, and bounty hunt. True, it’s a space penguin, but can’t beat it for the cost.
The Cutlass, I think, is awesome. However, it might be upgraded to a Freelancer variety. Cargo seems to be something worth doing. But I am holding off until the Mercury Star Runner is in game. I like the look of it and the cargo hold should be comparable. Until I make up my mind, the Cutty still holds its own.

Yup that ties in with where my mind was going.

The Redeemer and Hull B don’t bring me joy as Marie Kondo would say. And the Terrapin just seems extraneous now. Have to upgrade them next time the full stable is available.

Thanks for the thoughts and input!

I would still hang on to the Redeemer until we know where it is going.

Whoops! Meant the Retaliator! No question I will hold onto the Redeemer!
