The game, the rut, my possible conclusion

I also loved the prepatch and made many new alts. I am still in there trying to get hunter to 60 but I am not enjoying any of SL so far.

Interesting to read how some people just stop playing SL a few levels in. It was exactly the same for me in the last expansion. I have always had all classes at max level, but with the previous one, I played one character mostly, and justā€¦ Couldnā€™t go on after 4 levels or so. Itā€™s really odd.

Not really odd if the person is not enjoying the game. I am hanging in there but itā€™s not fun. I have the last area to see and am hoping maybe I will like it. When you find yourself dreading to log in then itā€™s probably time to move on. I left Wow when I hit those last 2 areas in BFA oh ugh!! That tinkertown kinda place.

Actually, the only fun thing I found in that particular area was the ā€œscoop-m-upā€ fish vacuum. Now that was hilarious. And with my mount able to walk on water, I literally just ran across water from one fishing pool to the next sucking up all those fish. Which was a good thing since they were bop and were required for some of my crafting. I am not normally a fisher, I get impatient and move on. Too bad that vacuum sucks up just one type of fish instead of any kind of fish, then I would definitely fish more.

Itā€™s all about the fun! Just as Shadowlands is bringing many folks back, itā€™s turning many off and sending them elsewhere as well. Life is just too short and stressful to play a game you donā€™t enjoy.

I am having a blast myself. As far as Torghast groups, there is no ideal comp really. Each final boss (itā€™s those finals that get you!) feels very different depending on if youā€™re solo or have various group comps. Itā€™s definitely not a tank/dps/heals only kind of place. Sometimes those final bosses take a lot of skill and persistence. If undergeared, which abilities pop up for you to pick make an enormous difference. Iā€™ve flown through some while others all I have are mawrat blow-y uppy skills that have NO use on a final boss. Torghast was not meant to be beaten by everyone every week and catchup mechanisms are crazy efficient. However, NONE of that matters if youā€™re not enjoying yourself in the expansion in general.

Iā€™ve been on vacation for a week, so now I must figure out what my mage needs to do for bitey boys while Iā€™ve been gone. :vampire:

Almost finished with the final area and I found it much better than the other places. I will have to do all my alts in that area as I cannot stand the others. Why is everything so washed out and faded? Not my pc bc its brand new.

So far Iā€™ve only soloed this. Iā€™m still at the very bottom level, but have learned a lot by taking my sweet time going through these areas open to me. Iā€™ve even taken to clearing every single room, nook and cranny I can find. Amazing how those traps are set and once I figured out the wall layout for those huge sickles swing from the sides, I was able avoid them. Thank goodness for my demonic gateway. Iā€™ve used that more often these days as an easy way to avoid some of those traps.

However, my story quest last night was a nightmare because the NPC just ran ahead leaving me to deal with the mobs, instead of helping me fight them off. Bliz really needs to work on those when the story quests have you go into Torghast with the NPC to find her friendā€¦then promptly leaves you in the dust.

It appeared that because I was taking my time, she got impatient and just ran ahead and bypassed a lot of those mobs on her way through, unfortunately they were waiting for me as I came into the area after her. To her credit she did keep one of the bosses busy while I was able to disable the four souls he had anchoring him so that he became vulnerable to damage. After that it was a fairly straight forward fight, but I could have just yanked her back a few times if I had had the ability. Railing against Bliz for not realizing the ā€œescortā€ had to stay with the hero in all this.

Strange comment maybe, but have you checked the settings on your HDMI adapter if youā€™re connected through HDMI? That itā€™s set to full range?

its not my pc. Other areas in the game are vivid

Where Zone are you seeing it washed out & faded?

First 3 zones were ā€˜paleā€™ and washed out looking in comparison to the rest of the game.

I get what youā€™re saying with Bastion. Way too bright for me. But Iā€™m not sure what youā€™re referring to with the other two. Maybe too much colored haze in the air?

maybe thats itā€¦ the others have haze

Todayā€™s the first day I feel bored and annoyed with the xpac. So much grind, so little anything else. My nervous system can only handle so much grind before I need a change. I found a toon thatā€™s easy for me to play (fury warrior), but I donā€™t think even that will save me for much longer. Iā€™m trying to stick around long enough to see all 4 parts of the story so far, but at this rate, I donā€™t think Iā€™ll make it. Iā€™m renown 15 in Night Fae and renown 9 in Venthyr. I donā€™t think I can stand pulling another toon through the 4 zones again to be able to do Kyrian or Necrolords. Maybe in a year or so during catch up.

Having more variety in the WQs would help immensely.

Alas, alas, my kingdom for a lass.

Ribbit,

I can commiserate. The same thing happened to me in Bastion yesterday and Iā€™m on my first toon. I canā€™t imagine doing the same thing on any of my other toons.

What I did do to help with this is make a new toon to level up in each xpac in Chromie time. I just started my monk in Panderia and Varian Wynn is King and the first thing Iā€™ll do is find his lost son, Anduin. Iā€™m kind of stoked about this. Yes, itā€™s old content, butI donā€™t have to grind to get through it (been there, done that). I can take my time, enjoy the monk, enjoy Pandaria and all there is to do without feeling pressured to gear up or whatever to do end game content (which is not my thing). And if I want, Iā€™ll just pug dungeons and lfr, and not care what others in the group think.

Iā€™ve tried other games, but I keep coming back to wow. The one game I havenā€™t tried is SWtOR. May try that soon.

All this to say, youā€™re not alone. And the other thing, over the years of playing wow, Iā€™ve changed and I donā€™t have the same objectives that I used to. Idk if this is an age thing or a sign of personal growth. Iā€™ll take it as both. And the best opportunities come out of boredom.

Iā€™m off to SWTOR and/or ESO. Enjoy SL. Iā€™ve realized that gaming is basically day care for me. Iā€™m sad to be leaving the day care Iā€™ve gotten used to and the people Iā€™ve enjoyed hanging out with. It was nice to finally relax around guildies (after being here for 9 years) and let myself be myself with you.

One of the main reasons Iā€™m leaving WoW is about responsibility. I have a responsibility to play a game that provides me with much more enjoyment than it does frustration. Playing a game that repeatedly crosses my ideal cost/benefit boundary makes me grumpy and complainy, causing me to pollute guild chat with frustration and complaints about the game and the devs. When that happens, itā€™s my responsibility to remove myself from the playground so that I donā€™t create messes where people are trying to enjoy themselves. Puking in guild chat from time to time is normal and understandable, but when it becomes a regular occurrence, itā€™s time to go see the nurse. My nurse told me itā€™s time to transfer to a different day care. I donā€™t belong in SL.

With the level squish and the transition of the xpacs from running in serial to running in parellel, Bliz has staked out their territory as an endgame game. I like playing games and donā€™t like playing endgames. Itā€™s quite possible that Iā€™ll never come back to Azeroth. Itā€™s a sad holiday season for me. One of my favorite homes has been ruined and must be abandoned.

@Mid - I leveled all classes to 50 during BfA, so your strategy wonā€™t work for me.
