[Finished] SF - Three AP Starfinder Campaign (Saturdays, 8-11 EDT)

I showed up a bit late myself. We discussed stuff and made some test characters, but we’ll have to remake them anyhow as recent FGU updates have borked some character creation stuff.

At this point I am entertaining two different character concepts;

  1. Dromada Operative with Ace Pilot Theme - Operative Specialization : Ghost
Stealth and sniper based character. I scout ahead and get back to the group pronto. Mainly hand back sniping, but will sneak in for prime melee attacks when the opportunity is right. I’m an operative in the sense of being a mercenary, selling my skills and abilities for good hard creds. I’ll fight for a cause…if the price is right. I do have a moral compass however and do not sell my services for evil, nefarious or despicable means. My race has a genetic predisposition towards being skittish, fearful and less than bold given that we were the main prey for the numerous predator species on our planet. I rejected the herd mentality so to speak and set out to make my way in the galaxy and not just “huddle with the herd” on my home planet. I am sarcastic and have a good ole chip on my shoulder about the nature of my race. I tend to overcompensate for this by being a moderate thrill seeker and perhaps a bit reckless once in a while. Piloting starships is one way I get my thrills. I’m a bit roguish, a bit of a scoundrel at times and I don’t make friends easily as I have tended to be a loner in the past.

  2. Vlaka Mystic (Star Shaman) Ace Pilot Theme

I have always felt a connection to and affinity for the cosmic forces that shape the very nature of existence. Growing up I longed to travel among the stars and witness astral phenomena and explore new wonders, planets and civilizations. Once I eventually left my homeworld, this connection to the cosmos manifested in mystical powers. I learned to pilot starships as a way to make a living and also to help drive my desire to fly among the stars and explore space. As a Vlaka I tend towards more goodly natured deeds and words. I am more likely to try and be everyone’s friend and to try and be an inspiration of good and positivity for friends and companions. I do not shy away from combat, but I would always recommend attempts at communication and understanding first to try and avoid unnecessary conflict and suffering. In this manner I am more interested in using my mystical powers for non-harmful means, but I do not reject mystic abilities that are more combat related. I have a strong determination to end any threats to the safety of the cosmos and the existence of this realm of space.

I feel like a broken record…

The map sizes sadly aren’t going to support the movement and the sniping of the dromada character. The maps tend to be way more intimate.

Plus I just want to say “Vlaka, vlaka, vlaka!” and do jazz-hands at my monitor that y’all can’t see in accompaniment.

Well still doing the Android Mechanic no drone. So far I have resisted the urge to splurge on starfinder rulebooks so that I can go overboard. I did buy the Starbuilder app for my Phone though. SO it gives me an OK idea of how I want to go with him. I just am not super sure about what tricks and stuff I want to grab given no drone.

Mith

As a Vlaka character you could also name yourself Mr. Peanut Butter!

You’re killin’ me Randos! Are my Dromada sniper Scooby Doo runnin’ dreams a joke to you? :smirk:

Lookin’ more and more like Izalguun Vanguard every day now. So how intimate are these maps gonna get if I’m playing a Large size race with a reach of 10 feet? :smirk:

And not that Rando has soured me on playing a Vlaka, I’m denying him the “vlaka vlaka vlaka” schtick and I will not play anything Vlaka. In fact @Rando, it feels like you are sublty trying to tell me not to play a Dromada Ghost snper Scooby Doo runnin’ badass and I am kinda feeling like:

So now my choices are

  1. Same thing as #1 in the earlier post. Dromada Ghost Operative Ace Pilot.

  2. Izalguun (Alien Archive 3, pg 59) Vanguard - I’m big (literally, Large size, 10 feet of reach) I’m badass, but I’m not a bad guun…err guy. I’m always at the front. always looking to get in the thick of the fight and bring chaos to the enemy. Make sure to stay out of my way . Guaranteed to block up small doorways. I’m a martial monster. I look like a monster, but I’m not. I will try to keep people up lifted by projecting confidence and strength while protecting the more vulnerable members of my group. Just remember not to get in my way. I balance out the tough guy act with skill at computers, electronics, and being an Ace Pilot. Y’all ready to hear the word “squeeze” a lot?

That sounds pretty cool having a large party member although I must admit I am chuckling at the thought of this character trying to manipulate flight controls too small for his hands.

I am also imagining Syzygy sitting nearby and trying to be helpful and saying captainly things: “No, not that one. Not that one either. Breathe…”

My main hands are not that huge.

“Hey, who’s the Ace Pilot here? Stop telling me what to do, RAARRGGH!”

I made Draelyn II again; he worked this time.

  • dragged race
  • dragged theme
  • dragged class
  • manually edited stats and it automatically updated skill points, resolve points, hitpoints, etc

Yay!

P.S. There was an update to the SF ruleset.

So it’s gonna come down to do I play Rocket Racoon as a speedy camel snail or do I play Drax the Destroyer as a vertical-mouthed centaur gorilla lizard/bug?

I was toying around with a raxilite technomancer idea. But I’m not really sure I like the “caster” options in SC. So I think the soldier is still my route.

@Findywen Hey, if I play a Dromada Operative to the tune of Rocket Racoon, you could play the Raxilite like Baby-Groot and we could be a mercenary team.

I will call him Troog. Might need to jurry rig some hand holds onto your armor, so I can use you as a mount

LOL love it, I actually had the name for my Dromada guy as Rocco Caroon.

@Rando I have been browsing sniper weapons in the core book and the Armory book and really they aren’t much different from long arms weapons. The default range on sniper weapons is on par with the range of long arms and the damage is comparable as well. The actual “Sniper” property on sniper weapons just increase the range increment to a longer distance if the player uses a move action to aim the weapon and fires it on the same turn. So the sniper weapons don’t snipe by default, in fact you should be encouraging me to use sniper weapons because they can only make one attack per turn. See, by using sniper weapons I have the GM’s interests at heart!

Having Sniper weapon proficiency on the Operative is just a nice alternative to have to avoid having to pick up the Long Arms weapon feat.

Disguise self, pretty benign spell, with limited use, part of the description is that you can make yourself 1 foot shorter or taller. As a space radish, does that mean I can make myself 4 inches tall? Or in the other direction I could become a small sized creature?

We now have Starship Operations Manual and Near Space as valid source books in Fantasy Grounds.

A couple of y’all (at the very least) are interested in Grapper’s Hallowe’en Savage Worlds one shot. So how’s about we start the Starfinder campaign on Nov. 7th. That’ll give the devs yet-another-week to fix/tune the ruleset, as well as y’all another week to fix/tune your characters/party/ship.

I’m down for starting on the 4th of November.

Sounds good to me! I had forgotten Halloween was on a Saturday. Wife and I are planning to (re)watch Alien.
