Weāll resume the battle of the Winterpeak Pass next week! Itās gonna be a long one.
Sorry about the disconnects and stuff tonight folks.
No worries.
We continued some discussion a little bit after you dropped.
For the record Ryu, We will not know whether the Hobgoblins always intended on screwing us over or not. While I was out walking the dog, It occurred to me that you specifically told the quartermaster about the disguised rebel visit and there intention with regards to the arms delivery. The three helicopterās from the hobgoblin might have been added on security from the information you provided them.
But at this point given everything it is a moot point. I have an idea that might cement your all chances with the rebels, I will have to see if Rando will go for it or not.

Sorry about that, nice to not have the pounding of my pulse in my head from my ear drum. How did everything go last night?
Glad your feeling better.
At a high level view:
We were approached by a disguised resistance operative while finishing up loading the trucks after the dog fight (You didnāt get bit again thanks to Stompey keeping you at a distance).
They wanted our help to secure the arms and ammo for them to fight the oppressive hobgoblins. Stompey when they were talking in dwarven told them the high level details of how and were the armaments were going. When the operative switched to common, The captain tried to get them to pay us for our help which they said they couldnāt do. So the Captain declined to help them.
When the quatermaster came back, the captain then told them all about the visit. ANd swore up and down he is going to get his crew paid. Since no one except Ryu actually commented on my tentative plan, I was only able to force the conversation to holding off on taking the convoy up the mountain until the morning after we all rested which the captain agreed. Our wonderful rolls were with us and pretty much killed most chances to but did manage to pull out the waiting to morning. No other demands.
So in the front truck there was us and two goblin guards. In the second truck there was 6 guards and they where trailing us. We got to the long winding road with cliff face rising on the left of us and cliff face falling off to the right. Alydia was driving with one hobgoblin in the front seat and stompey and the captain in the rear seats. I was perched up on top in the middle behind the cab, niknak was halfway down the trailer and you were at the back end with the second Hobgolblin guard.
A dwarven resistance operative climbed up from under the truck and on the surprise round only 3 of use and neither of the hobs could react. Stompey climbed out of the cab and came back up to stand beside me. Alydia started to slow the truck and I canāt remember who the third one who could act was (you or niknak).
Stompey tried to talk him out but let him know the captain was siding with the Hobgoblins which meant we were here to protect the stuff. So he apologized to his fellow dwarf, then shot me. On the next actual turn the captain also climbed back on the back of the truck and normal combat versus the operative was in effect.
As a player, you then would know that Alydia pulled out her pistol and did her trick attack and fired on the hobgoblin guard. She hit and damaged her, but did not kill her in on shot, so she shot back at alydia and then talked in hobgoblin on her radio. Alydia then finished her off over the next two rounds. She tried to claim in character that it was self defense as the hobgoblin went crazy. But at that point the hobgoblin on the back started targeting us. We managed to put the dwarven operative down but Jack is pretty hurt. The second truck was speeding up to catch up to us.
And then out of the clouds appeared 6 helicopters( 3 for the resistance and 3 for the Hobgoblins). THe captain then started cursing about how they hobgoblins were not going to sign off the delivery and yadda yadda yadda, And that now we were goign to help the resistance in the hope they let us loot the hobgoblins and help us get off planet.
And that is were we stopped as Rando had a lot of family over including Ocelot and they were overwhelming his network with devices and he crashed 3 times. Rando had just finished up setting up the helicopterās, pilots and gunners on the map whrn the third one happened and he just called it. Which is where we stopped.
That is when I added my above comment after my dog walk that the Hobgoblin copters might have been there due to the Captain telling them everything. We will never really know it they were goign to F with us or not.
So at this point our orders are to target the hobgoblin pilots and try to come up with a story to land on the good side of the resistance when the fight is over.
thankfully the dwarven operative was killed with a laser rifle which is what the hobgoblins are armed with. So we can say he went down from the private rifle fire.

So I didnāt have a very good idea of what Alydia was about going into this campaign and so far most of my in character actions have been more driven by my out of character preferences as a player. The good news though is that now I have a good idea of what sheās about!
I was trying to have Alydia surreptitiously āaidā the resistance as much as possible, e.g. by letting air out of tires and trying to convince the captain to convoy at night (although to be fair that was also due to wanting to avoid headaches from light blindness). The last part of that was convincing the captain to leave the driversā cab so that she could kill the hobgoblin private and at least leave Maelchi with plausible deniability. Unfortunately that didnāt work out very well as now the entire hobgoblin army has descended on us. Alydia, being chaotic, doesnāt really have a plan other than try to help the resistance while hopefully not hurting her colleagues.
As to why Alydia brought all of this chaos down, well, again, a lot of that was driven by my own out of character sensibilities as a player, just being generally annoyed with the hobgoblins. I wasnāt sure how all of this would play out or how the rest of the party would ultimately react. I was mentally prepared for the rest of the party to turn against Alydia in which case she wouldāve fled on foot and at that point I guess I wouldāve just rolled up a new character.
One thing that occurred to me this morning is that, unless Iām mistaken, I believe @Stompey had previously indicated his mystic is a follower of Pharasma. A follower of Pharasma might be highly offended by the way the hobgoblins disposed of that Shirrenās corpse.
Oh I forgot the most important thing from last night: Rando actually liked a Peizo Starfinder Adventure arc as written. There was lots of Ohhh and Ahhhs and quick get this on a recorded medium so we have proof.

LIES!
In other news Iāve actually um⦠read some of the⦠er⦠Starfinder rules.
@Quixote was right. The exocortex is more poopie than I realized. I havenāt read the mechanic since we started playing, like a year ago; and yāall havenāt fought a mechanic adversary since weāve started playing so I had no idea how they actually work. I thought that alongside getting heavy armor proficiency and longarm proficiency, exocortex mechanics got full BAB. But nope, they do that combat tracking thingie as a move action to get full BAB against a single target. Ugh!
Letās at least get Niknak a longarm huh?
In other news, Niknak would have faired (a lot) better against the Hobbees 'cause of his Moxie racial.
Well then poor Rod is about to become not as much of a mover when he fires I guess. That means we will need to set up two versions of each of our weapons, one with full BAB and the other without.
I never really looked the rules over but took your interpretation when we were talking about mechanics when first coming up with Rod.
Well as least we know.
Mith
I actually think Rod has been doing it fine. I checked my android app Starbuilder and I am pretty sure I was just making sure everything on my FG Character was matching up with the build I had on there. If so he was built correctly. At 7th level he only has a BAB of 5, I think, so with weapon focus, his Dex and that BAB he should just be at a +10 to hit.
Mith
The other thing I read (correct me if Iām wrong here) is that the natural BAB is basically level3/4, and the combat tracking upgrades that to level1. Not so great at lower levels, but magnifies the benefit at higher. Really starts to kick in at 5+
Yeah I checked Rod, And honsestly, for exocortex we get the plus 1 at 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, no increase at 4th⦠so for those 3 levels we are the equivalent of soldiers. its only after that when we need to start using the tracking thing to keep the parity with soldiers.
And with Rodās high Dex up to now, he hasnāt really missed the +2 at 7th that he is missing. He still hits more often than not. So for now I prefer to keep his movement as I like to pop around the field before i fire.

FYI. Iām not going to be able to make the session tomorrow night. Should be back in the saddle the following week.
@ocelot is travelling tomorrow and will be spending the evening offsite (from regular) so may or may not be on.
Howās about we just cancel tomorrow and pick up next week. Thereās going to be a lot of moving parts in the Winterpeak Run and weāre gonna want all hands on deck.
Iām fine with canceling.
My plans can wait an extra week to unfoldā¦
So⦠I guess today is the big day where we resolve um⦠chaos? @Rando are you ready to GM the chaos? Can you handle the chaos? Because I donāt think we can
I think itās going to something like this: Two Brothers | Rick and Morty | Adult Swim - YouTube
Hey guys. May not be able to make the game tonight.
I think the fight appears more chaotic than it is. Focus fire the hobgoblin pilots, starting with the pilot of the gunship. The hobgoblins are now definitely against us and they are probably far less amenable than the resistance fighters. If we down the hobgoblins then odds are the resistance will want to play ball and we can make a deal with them. From our earlier interaction with a resistance member it seems they donāt have much if anything to pay us with, but if we help them free the slaves/get rid of the hobgoblin presence here perhaps we can negotiate to take a share of the hobgoblinsā assets equal in value to the value of the weapons we have. We arenāt gonna get paid by the hobgoblins now at any rate so Iām seeing that as best case scenario now.
Really I think the only way Alydia is gonna save face here is to do something really crazy action movie like jump onto the hobgoblin gunship and take out the pilot to take control of it as Alydia is about the only pilot in the group.
You know what would be really handy in this fight? Oh I donāt know maybe a FLYING VANGUARD DPS TANKā¦just sayinā
I was actually gonna try that! Of course somebody would have to take the wheel - maybe a certain badly wounded android day laborer?
Are we going to postpone if Quixote canāt make it tonight? Iām fine either way, just wondering so I can make backup plans incase.
