TL:DR Is OTG interested in having a presence in Everquest Legends?
I know I know for those of us who are tired of the predatory development funding practices of Enad Global 7 (second group of folks that bought out the EQ franchise and have been milking it with lame TLP’s for YEARS!) I know what the more cynical guys and gals among us will say as I am one of them.
OH God NO a subscription fee plus a box cost and they will have a cash shop that they promise this time wont have pay to win stuff in it.. yeah right!
Or… They have Developers from the Private server community like Secrets from Project Quarm, and Rogean and Sysyphus (aka Emberwo on discord) from the P99 Developer team and even though Daybreak has made them “Legitimate” by calling their “independant” development studio “Game Jawn” who call Philly, PA their home who are working under the auspices of Daybreak Games.
There are some bright spots.
There will be no Krono on this server and there seems to be a “No Box” rule being discussed. Information on their discord is flowing fast and furious so consider the source when checking the chat there. You can find that link Here.
One of my favorite legit streamers (ie someone whose content I trust) @redbeardFlynn has a new video about the game here.
There is a hot take video here by some lovers of old Everquest @RiseofZek (a pvp focused old school guild) they are active in Monsters and Memories also found here.
If you are interested Game Jawn is having a beta test coming up very soon (April) and a supposed launch in July of this year. That link can be found here.
Anyway I wanted to post this and see what my OTG Brothers and Sisters think about trying this game or saying pass I am playing XYZ instead. Lets Discuss. Go! Calicobard
Pass for me. I’m from the school of thought where they should have just redone the game in modern fashion rather than going with nostalgia-schtick which was old long ago (imho). I’ve always been a gameplay-over-graphics fan but there comes a point where some upgrade is welcome. True, their target audience is now (a lot) older but even we reach a point where it’s time to move on.
It is going to be a very niche game. As the years have rolled by I am going to return to a game I left over 20 years ago. If OTG was there I would join, but socialization is the only value I would get out of the guild. That is also enough, if it happens. If not, me and a couple friends will just plunk along. Clearly I am less cynical than most gamers these days.
Same here was hoping for at least a graphics upgrade , I just can’t go back to EQ, though I have fond memories of the game that got me started in MMO’s, it was some of the best times in my gaming life
I jumped on EQ a year or two ago and the old graphics and UI made me run away. When I saw EQL being mentioned I decided to give it another go. Graphics are still a quarter of a century old. The UI is challenging after what we are now used to. Combat is slow enough that I have literally went and got coffee, then went to the restroom before returning as combat with one mob was completed.
The soon to be 68 year old me is just fine with that pace. The old graphics are nice, I do not have to upgrade my computer again. EQL allowing me to not have to put up with toxic people if I need a group in which to progress. It is more than memories to be honest. That is where my life is now.
I’m excited about it. Came out of the blue for me. I was planning on playing Monsters and Memories. Been in a couple of the alphas and betas. M&M is EQ w updated graphics but do I really have the time to LFG - find a group - leave after an hour or two finding a replacement - avoiding the temptation of staying up late. If I was retired I like to think I’d go all in on Monsters and Memories but work calls and needing sleep.
So, yeah … I plan to give EQ L a honest try plus I get to visit the zones and sounds I fell in love with so long ago.
I’ve been watching the developers videos on youtube. Some are introductions to new mechanics. Others (atm) is a 4 part “Insight” … sorry “Everquestl Legends Insight” 4 parts where they begin playing at level 1 in North Ro and travel to Befallen at level 5. Organically illustrating changes , mechanics, QOL, as they play. Well “Moth” is his handle Lead of QA.
I am so excited and can not wait. Have not been blessed w a beta key thus far. My plan is to create a barbarian warrior ( I love halas and played a barb warrior exclusively from 1999 to about 2005 ).
Gonna go for Warrior + Cleric + Rogue using my alter ego name of my warrior.
Iksar players have a new exit that takes them to North Ro. A tunnel from the hill side that meets the ocean. They kicked the shit out of those barbarian fisher men + women. Huts all messed up and the barbs missing.
I’ve seen this podcaster before but don’t follow or even watch his videos but “Redbeard flynn” on youtube’s 11 minute … I played in the Beta and … my work life suffered. lol…
A few things that have changed I’ve learned from the programmers , devs, QA lead folks
you create a character. the class is limited by race. you choose a 2nd class also.
level 11 you choose class #3.
( i may be incorrect ) you still need to level each of your 3 classes up to lvl 50. so I guess I would change from my warrior class to my cleric class. level up focusing on the cleric class.
EQ (base) era dungeons are being polished with new / changed mobs and drops/loot. more rewarding.
Corpse runs are gone. Death you can spawn at bind point (ie: freeport), inside the zone (ie: guk was another location not the zone line), accept a res, there’s also gather party as long as party is not in combat. forgot with your gear … btw
ships are in game. ship from odus (the erudian folks) now sails to butcher block. there’s translocation npcs too if you want to use them.
you can equip pets with gear. slots are determined by class and iirc AA’s. ie: a SK in guk … his lvl 11 pet had a weapon, chest, legs, and gloves. this pet inventory window persists through death or summon swap.
the majority of items can be upgraded 10 times. a tarnished rusty mining pick can be merged with another to increase its stats. dervish rings for example can become quite powerful for us.
initally there will not be any alts. 1: since we can level to 50 in every class. 2. possibly in the future. this will help prevent boxing i thought they said.
everyone has their own loot. there’s mechanics now to auto sell that tarnished pick axe, merge it if merging is possible, keep it in inventory , send to something called a tradeskill depot ( ie: spider silk). along with totally ignoring it from appearing / notifying you.
11 : items can be traded once after looting. then it binds to that character. this is to keep the market from flooding with items.
Yes, it does sound good but I’m having trouble deciding what race and class to play. My main was a WE Druid back in the day but I really enjoyed my Troll SK…except for the trains of Frogloks…maybe a Troll SK/Mage to start? or Iksar something/something. Are some of the later race additions in there…like Frogloks for instance or the cat people? I guess I need to do more research
edit: Ok, I just went and watched the ‘insight’ videos and got my questions answered, mostly. Still no clue what race/class to go with. Being an Altoholic I hope their new system will be fun.
pressed for time atm … quickly : from what I saw in the insight videos … you can unlock all classes and races through the Achievements system they have. As they may not have alts … you can start as a human and unlock the dark elf race as an example.
you can also join their discord and ask a question there. I have asked a few already and received answers quickly.
I loved THJ and it looks like they are adopting a lot of those mechanics. I’m interested and planning on a BRD/MNK/Paladin (slay undead). I might try BRD/MNK/Mage for the pet but I prefer to take an active role and pretty much anything with a mage is just autopilot.
