Dune: Awakening Open World Survival MMO

I might preorder too. I’ll be out town the week of the 20th but I took 15th &16th off. It would be cool to get back in a game with OTG again. I have a couple friends that are on the fence about it.

Pre ordered too

I went all in because of course I did. The game is beautiful, the music is epic. The sounds are original. I know there will be lots more of us picking up the game. So you all on the 15th.

The developer livestream was on Tuesday if anyone missed it, here’s the YouTube vod: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8njSs2lg7hI
They dropped some good info. I’m going to get the deluxe edition. I don’t see anything in the ultimate that entices me to purchase it. The base swatches were just for the furniture (boo) and I wasn’t too impressed with the equipment swatches. I haven’t been this excited about a Funcom game since AoC.

I’m looking forward to diving into this only the littlest skimmings of knowledge about it so it is nice and fresh (since they have been prescient enough not to send me a beta invite) :smirk: It’s been a good while since I went into a MMO fresh with no beta experience. I think I need it right now; starting fresh in a sci-fi (my favorite genre) MMO set in a well know and well established franchise and not based off the established story line, but doing its own thing. I’m burnt out from betas and early access lately.

has there been any indication about the faction side of things and if you can be in any or that your locked into a side once you choose?

I am pretty sure I will be going Atreides

due to server size it may be a good idea that members going Atreides choose a different server then members going Harkonnen

There is talk of a 3rd secret faction to be added later, some say its going to be House Corrino but we will have to wait and see.

I do believe you will have an option to defect to another House

I think it would be neat if we saw the resurgence of the Fremen in this version of the storyline and then they become the third faction.

I’ve heard it holds little solo ability within the MMO world. Pretty much need a group to survive. This accurate? That would be my only turn off.

Pre-ordered, Ultimate Bundle.

Remember to download the character designer to get your free skin, plus its a deep designer so you can spend a hour making a character.

from what I have done so far it’s all been solo
I have complete Act 1 solo
And I have yet to build me a Ornithopters, but that is a task I am saving for when game goes live.

I am not going balls to the wall either, learning the basics of the game and survival is key. Don’t rush through the area.
Do each achievement for the area to have a smoother experience in the next zone of the game.

Me too, slowing down now so don’t burn out. Some Tips:

Dont build a big base at the start, you abandon it pretty quick when you move deeper, and moving too much stuff is a pain. concentrate on leveling exploring. I just took the Rare stuff and abandoned the rest to the sand and moved to the top of Vermillius Gap. Even still I know am moving again but a thopter will help there.

Journeys/contracts are the fastest way to level and show you where the mats are. So just play the game. The first part is easy PvE, the mid to last is sandbox. Endgame is PvP.

The crashing ships can kill you so look up! Have crafting mats. Downed poi shipwrecks on the other hand contain crafting mats and unique schematics.

You don’t need to PVP if you don’t want to… avoid the PVP POIs and you can buy the rare stuff from the PVP zones. That being said the conflicts over Sietches and Houses (there are quite few of them) (to control resources and Forts) will need a fair number of players. Even efficiently gathering Spice in the deep Desert requires heavy logistics from pilots guards operators and observers. Need teams to avoid losing VERY expensive equipment.

I keep coming back to check out this game and am on the fence about buying. The look & vibe of this game does little for me - I’ll spare you the why. On the flip-side, I more or less like “Dune”; like MMO’s/MMORPG’s, though this game seems light as either, &; am looking for something new to start alongside a group/guild. I am mostly a solo-PVE player (though that didn’t stop me from countless hours of Planetside 2). The base cost is annoying but I could deal with it in lieu of monthly subs. Still, I don’t want to drop this much $$ on any game…esp one that I’m ambivalent about.

So yeah, it seems like a “no” for me but…I want to hear your opinions. Seems like most of you are interested and some already played a bit or at least are well verse on things. What are the selling points for you?

Thanks.

P.S. I did d/l and run the benchmark tester. My comp is older and, just by specs, would be in mid-tier for performance. However it did manage to avg around 100 FPS. While that prob. seems low to some of you, I’m used to playing with much worse that that so seems like it would be OK. Anyone else have oldie-but-goodie comp and have actual in-game exp?

Zodanga has mirrored the things I wanted to say once this thread started. I researched most of the info on the game and even applied to beta (somewhat guiltily since I might have been taking a spot from someone who was excited about this) but as much as I enjoyed Dune and the first three books or so (I still have the original Ace edition) and the movies, I just can’t see the thrill of running around on a desert planet with giant worms, political problems at every turn and other players all trying to make a home on the rocks somewhere. If the game was placed on Caladan I might have been more interested…or even Giedi Prime. Anyway, your answers to Zodanga’s Barsoomian post (hey, there’s a place for an MMO!) is of interest to me as well. And don’t call me Debby Downer!

The survival aspect is a huge part of the game. The beginning area is really big and if you really wanted to explore all of as a solo player or with friends it would take weeks. A casual solo player you would be there for months if you don’t rush to get to the end game areas. The building is not complex, but structures are only limited by imagination. The storyline does not follow the books. This is a what if, so the storyline is all new. I find it very intriguing. PvP is not just mash buttons. You will have to be smart about it, especially in groups. One class does not have a huge advantage over the others. I’m not gonna say it’s perfectly balanced just yet.

This not a cookie cutter mold of a game. I think funcom is trying something a bit new with aspects from their other games mixed in. You definitely will get some “Age of Conan”, “Conan Exiles” vibes. But on a much much larger scale. I like to describe it as EVE and Rust had a baby. Others may disagree and say that is too simple.

I do think this game is going to be hugely social. IMO the success of it depends on that. I think it will do well. If you’re on the fence I would keep an eye on it but no reason to put your money on it now. Especially a preorder. As a beta player I love it and recommend it if you really like survival and building.

Arggh! Saw an email from Funcom in my inbox this weekend and thought I got a beta invite for a second there and then I saw it was just a promo email for Dune Awakening. Funcom out there trying to ruin my weekend

I got an email in my inbox. Due to an NDA, I cannot confirm or deny what it is but I have been waiting for it and wanting it for many months. I am beyond excited. Maybe. Sorta. I mean, depending what it is which I cannot confirm or deny. But generally speaking, yeah.
