Alrighty, Russian Ice Witch Barbie it is. mwaHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

You’ve already done that though…

Oh wait, that was a Russian Ice Sorcerer Barbie.

Just to be clear, a RIWB (Russian Ice Witch Barbie) is in fact a Kineticist.

What languages are common in the region we’ll be playing in?

@Uglybugger Looks good!

@eddyteagle Elves mostly live in the fairy realm, so interactions would primarily be in places where the veil between worlds is thin. Perhaps your mother met a mysterious elf in the woods on midsummer night. Visibly elven people would be in danger. If you had the “Round Ears” ancestry feat, you might have been able to blend in, or perhaps you grew up in a remote village where everyone keeps your family’s secret from the outside world.

We should definatly have some discussions about how we want the campaign to play.

I hadn’t ever looked into it before, but I finally took a look at those optional rules. Does Automatic Bonus Progression do anything for spellcasters? If not, then won’t they just fall further and further behind melee that get both stat increases and Attack Potency? Ooooh, right. Pathfinder hates spellcasters!

Fundamental Armor Runes for free!
Item bonuses to Skills for free!
And with Weapon Fundamental Runes for free combined with Prof w/out Level and the appropriate buffs and stuff, a caster using their third action to do a (probably ranged) weapon attack after casting a Save spell is a viable damage option!

But yes, PF2 hates casters.

Automatic Bonus Progression just means you get your striking and potency runes for free. It’s not an extra bonus. Since magic items are rare, this makes sure you don’t fall behind the expected curve.

I appreciate that, Grapper. It’s a way to make low-magic campaigns keep up with magic campaigns so that the GM doesn’t have to re-work every monster. I guess my view of the underlying issue is another thing entirely.

Why must casters fall so far behind weapon users when it comes to bonuses to attack rolls? Let’s compare a Fighter to a Wizard. Fighters gain weapon mastery at level 5, giving them a +6 proficiency bonus to weapon attack rolls in addition to the bonuses they gain from weapon potency (runes or rules). Wizards don’t gain spell mastery until LEVEL 15! Additionally, they don’t gain ANY benefit from weapon potency (runes OR rules)!

There is no “Touch AC” that spell casters benefit from any more, we all have to hit the same numbers on our rolls. Why are casters so far behind with their bonuses?

I apologize for polluting your campaign thread with my meanderings. It’s just a general gripe, and not one that needs to be placed here.

@Uglybugger Yes… you should be ashamed of yourself polluting this thread when that space could be used for SERIOUS discussions about my Leshy Gunslinger, Pistolero de Nopal.

TLDR:

  • martials have only three degrees of success: crit, hit, miss
  • casters “enjoy” all four degrees of success, and most non-cantrip spells do something even on a miss or even if the target makes their non-crit save

Also,

Prof w/out Level is going to make many more targets easier to hit (both AC and saves) with non-incapacitation spells.

I think @Daemoro and I are doing the same thing we always do and waiting for the other to blink first and commit.

I have character concepts for:

  • a kineticist
  • a sorcerer

I don’t have concepts of a plan for, but wouldn’t mind playing:

  • a cleric
  • a champion
  • a rogue
  • a bard
  • a fighter

I am working on:

  • Mastermind Rogue Archer/Slinger

  • Mastermind Rogue Melee

  • Warpriest Archer

  • Bard/Loremaster/Potential sub-standard healer

  • Fighter

Oh the main thing I have NOT found or worked on yet is a good story. I don’t feel like I know enough about the world to make something that feels right… except for Pistolero de Nopal of course. He has a score to settle.

You don’t need a big backstory to start as long as you have a good reason to adventure. As we go along, you can add backstory elements when it makes a good story.

Oh I get it… it’s just that my favorite characters always have a story that I like. I want to be invested.

Here’s me!

Oh yeah, Grapper, have you considered whether or not you plan to permit the free archetype optional rule? We’ve gotten used to it since we’ve had it for the past couple of campaigns, but that doesn’t mean we should expect it.

I totally expect it.
