Tips and other stuff you discovered (Spoilers?)

the one at the DMV is the small purifier

Huh. Must be obtainable from both then. I got it from taking a workshop, haven’t been to the DMV.

hmm, actually in thinking about it, I’m not sure if it’s the small or the first that requires water. this may need further testing

just verified you are correct. the plan you get from the DMV cache is the one requiring water to place

on your map NW of vault 76 is a BIG Ferris wheel. just across the road from there is Tyler County Dirt Track.
You claim that for 25 caps (the person that claims it gets the plan automatically put in your workshop no plans to learn. the only plan i got was for a metal stool in my inventory. But I got several defenses placed in my workshop menu as well. If you go as a group Log out and back in to free it up for the next person in your group to claim.

Some of the mutations you get from getting exposed to radiation can be very beneficial depending on your build.

List of mutations and effects

I haven’t verified this, but the Emmett Mountain Disposal Site supposedly has a rad shower right next to a bunch of radioactive barrels. So you can alternate between the radiation and the shower until you get the mutation you want. Then, you can equip a level 2 Starched Genes (Luck) perk card to keep the mutation from being cured.

I’m planning to try and pick up the Twisted Muscles (25% melee damage) mutation to make the already OP melee build even better.

This IGN interactive map is pretty awesome. This map at fo76map.com is even better!. Aside from showing you locations of Power Armor and whatnot, you can use the search bar to find any location on the map and it will highlight it.

Great for showing you that the Emmett Mountain Disposal Site is just east of Whitesprings…

–EDIT-- Just read somewhere that this zone might have got nerfed yesterday and the stashes have been removed :frowning:

Whitesprings is a great farming zone for many reasons. One is caps stashes. There is a great guide up on Reddit now showing where they all are:

For bonus points, load up the Cap Collector (more caps in the stashes) and the Fortune Finder (audible alert) perk cards.

  1. You will still take rads from gathering dirty water, even if you no longer take rads from drinking dirty water due to Perk Cards (this just gives me the willies)

  2. Supermutants almost always drop caps. There is a lumber yard directly north of the Ferris Wheel on the map, It has a bunch of lv 5 Supermutans, so good cap farming for new players

  3. Aaronholt Homestead has a large farm full of veggies good for new players or those not growning their own crops. It also has a shed that spawns Power Armour (T45 to T60 is what I have seen there so far)

  4. Another quick income source is to farm the meds around the exterior of Morgantown Airport. The bunkers have lots of stims and killing the scorched drops a fair amount of Rad-Away (more than you will likely need)

  5. Food you can process at workshops like Sunshine Farms are Rad-Free versions of the same foods randomly found in the world.

  6. Use you pipboy to tag junk components that are hard to come by (screws, ballistic fibre etc). This will put a little magnifying glass next to scrappable world items that contain those components

  7. The Tesla Rifle receives bonuses from the Rifleman Perk card unless you mod it with a Semi-Automatic mod in which case you will need to use the Commando Perk. Even though it uses Cells and zaps lightning about, it’s not classed as an Energy Weapon (it seems)

  8. Always carry a gas mask, although rare, there are rad-storms in the Forrest region. Wearing one while swimming also prevents water borne diseases.

  9. If, like me, you are a silly sausage, and take a low level character somewhere dark and decide to throw on what cobbled together pieces of Power armour you have, just remember the Helmet is the essential piece to have for a light…you can’t use your pipboy torch in power armour.

  10. Early on it’s cheaper to scrap and make new armour instead of repairing it

The Supermutants at the dam seems to respawn fairly quickly which would help with farming. Forget their level but somewhat higher. There is a tinker bench for scrapping stuff too. Need hack 3 to get in the dam… or a friend to open it. There is a key you can find inside once you are in though.

If you end up with too much steel, wood, or cloth and don’t want to ‘waste’ the limited vendor capital (200 caps per faction per day) then make throwing knives, boards, and / or outfits for a little free XP rather than just dumping it.

Similarly, use drugs and food you find to cook / chemistry a little extra XP

Revisit places where you found recipes / plans - they are not always the same.

Flamers are a pain to get ammo (fuel) for BUT with the Friendly Fire perk you heal your team mates by setting them on fire. Hours of fun, especially if you play with the wife!

Never be too afraid to sneak around in your underwear (See Indira’s photo post)

Many online sources are inconsistent about what type of weapon something is (i.s. crossbow and Tesla rifle are both down as Heavy on some sites) - best to test for yourself by switching out certain perks to see if it changes the stats.

e.g. The ‘shotgun’ barrel on a Tesla rifle doesn’t change it from Energy and Rifle. It does not get modified by the shotgun perks, even with this mod.

Didn’t know about ALL of those Cap Stashes! I only found four in Whitesprings. Thanks!

I keep forgetting to do that one.

When using automatic weapon screaming, “Come get some! AAARRGGGHHH!” at the monitor increases DPS.

BEST TIP EVER! I noticed this also works in the Daybreak DLC of State of Decay 2!

Here’s a quick and easy way to earn some caps. I can’t take credit for this, I found it from a Youtube video - But … the video in question claimed you could earn up to 3000 caps this way, but he was not taking the 200 cap limit on vendors into account when he said that. The limit with this method is actually 1200 caps per day, but you can gather that in under an hour. You can squeeze out a bit more than 1200 if you’re also buying from the vendor at the same time, but if not, 1200 is it.

First head West to Point Pleasant and the Mothman Museum. Just outside the Museum is a Mothman statue surrounded by a lot of red mothman eggs. These sell fairly well, even raw, for the little amount of time and effort needed to collect them. But the goal here is to cook the mothman egg omelette for even more caps. Each point in Charisma that you have on your build will add about 1 more cap per egg. And if you have the Hard Bargain perk, you can add another 1 cap per level of perk.

Gather all of these that you can, then head toward the river where there is a little shrine surrounded by more mothman eggs. On an average run you’ll collect 24 to 27 of these. From what I had read, If you have the Green Thumb perk card equipped you are supposed to gather double that number, so roughly 48 to 54 eggs… but this did not seem to work for me. Seems it only works on plants not eggs.

Then, log out to the main menu. Log back in and this will hop you to another server. Rinse and Repeat, gather more eggs. Once you have 150 eggs, find a place to cook them, then find your best route to 6 of the faction vendors noted below. (You can stop at even lower egg counts if your Charisma and Hard Bargain points are higher than in my example).

Keep an eye on the condition of the eggs as they spoil fairly quickly. Once you’ve made several runs be sure to cook them first to maximize the profit. They also last longer cooked.

So, for example, with a Charisma of 4 and 1 point in Hard Bargain, I was selling mothman egg omelettes for 8 caps per. This might not seem like a lot, but with the vendors capped at 200, err, caps, per faction … and as quickly as you can gather these eggs, it adds up fast. Gather up 150 eggs, a bunch of wood to cook the eggs, and then Sell 25 omelettes to a Responder’s vendor, another 25 to a Raiders vendor, 25 to Whitesprings, 25 to Enclave (Whitesprings Bunker), 25 to Free State (Harper’s Ferry), and 25 at Watoga Station, and you’ve made a quick 1200 caps in less than an hour. (Minus fast travel fees.) I had thought that the Brotherhood vendor at Watoga Shopping Plaza would add a 7th sell point, but when I got there his caps were at 0, so it must share with one of the other factions. Grahm the traveling super mutant vendor may offer a 7th point, but good luck finding him … Be sure to re-adjust these numbers depending on your Charisma points and Hard Bargain perk. More eggs needed with lower Charisma or no perk, fewer eggs needed with higher points spent.

Don’t forget to save yourself a big pile, they last fine when they are cooked and are a free easy way to have a great food in your quickslot.

Awesome visual reference for figuring out which plans you are missing for your C.A.M.P.
