I’ve always had stuttering and connection/disconect issues from the very start with D4.
Today, S7 , it’s very unbearable.
I have an old i7 7700k 10 year old machine. Comcast reports a three digit (200-something) download speed. I’m planning to buy a new computer later this year or around this time next year (if I make it).
Anyone else have issues like this? I did turn off that cross connect feature. Had it on during S6 to find any groups running the khazra dungeon.
First of all After 14 October 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide free software updates from Windows Update, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10. This is their big push to eventually push everyone off the cliff to windows 11. Windows will still work but you will need to pay them money to get any more security fixes.
That said we still have 8 months left of windows 10.
when was the last time you did a reinstall of windows ? It can get clogged up pretty quick nowadays and as a first step I would run the command as administrator for a command prompt
SFC /VERIFYONLY
this will check the system files for any errors without making any changes if it comes back with no errors then that’s good if it comes back with a few errors then run
SFC /SCANNOW
this will do the same check as before but will repair the corrupt files and replace them from copies on your hard drive
if the verifyonly command comes back with lots and lots of errors then scannow will probably fail so dont even try to run scanow
The next step would be to download the media creation tool and run it. then run the setup file from the downloaded media file. along the line you should get an option to do either a full install or a refresh this is what you want it will replace system files but leave all your software in place
After some time you should have a much cleaner and faster pc and 99% or so of your apps should be working
All this means is that the os should not be an issue when running any games and if the computer still lags its probably either you video card or system memory not being up to the task.
the cpu should still be ok
all this does is lets you check the os is not so borked and may save you a full reinstall of windows and give you some time before your new pc arrives
Hope this helps
oh and beckup any vital data onto an external drive or 2nd hard drive before you do anything
Even though I have a high end computer and we just upgraded our internet I still sometimes have stuttering or freezing issues in D4. I don’t know why, but I wonder if it’s server side.
I have been playing D4 for a long time and the issues IMHO are server side. It has been ridiculous lately with lag and stuttering. I think its the “green” event in the season thats causing it. Its worse in those zones and when people are fighting the constant deluge of loot pinatas of husks.
Just a little thing i was reading in reddit last night, regarding games stuttering and lagging all be it in POE had a big effect on :: lag Go into Device Manager. Go to “Sound, video and game controllers”. Right-click on “NVIDIA High Def Audio” and click disable of course if you don’t use Nvidia then it doesn’t apply
There is also an AMD sound driver which has the same effect and isn’t needed as its only the driver for the speakers in your monitor "AMD High Definition Audio Device, and AMD Streaming Audio Device. either uninstall or disabling them is reported as helping a lot with choppy graphics
its worth a try
Thank you for all the information and suggestions. ATM my plan is to buy my new PC from build redux. Looking for a system to last another 5 to 6 years not 10 like my current situation. Yes, I build my current and previous pc and very proud of that. I just don’t want to go through “all of that stress” again.
Anyways … that’s where I’ll be win 11 or 12 … maybe windows 13 compliant.
btw when I exit D4 it must take 3 minutes for it to finally to finish. Then with Last Epoch it continually detects my HOTAS (elite dangerous) so I have to unplug 'em. Haven’t had any weird issues with Grim Dawn, Titan’s Quest, nor PoE 1 or 2.
I did the sound disable recommended by Alphea but I also read that turning off crossplay helped. Well whatever changed, it runs perfect. No issues at all just now.
