A true spiritual successor to Asheron’s Call, Project: Gorgon embraces the sense of freedom and player agency that defined that era of online worlds. Development has been guided by industry veteran Eric Heimburg, a principal developer on Asheron’s Call and Asheron’s Call 2. His influence is visible throughout the game’s focus on exploration, experimentation, and organic character growth rather than rigid progression paths.
Unlike traditional MMORPGs that lock players into fixed classes, Project: Gorgon is built around a classless, skill-based progression system. Players are free to learn and advance any skill they encounter. Skills improve through use rather than artificial level gates, allowing characters to evolve based on playstyle and personal choice rather than preset roles.
- Combat Skills: Ranging from familiar disciplines like Archery, Sword, and Fire Magic to unconventional systems such as Psychology, Mentalism, and Fairy Magic. These form the foundation of both solo and group play.
- Trade & General Skills: Supporting a deep player economy, these include Blacksmithing, Alchemy, Brewing, Flower Arrangement, Gardening, Transmutation, and many others. Trade skills are deeply connected to quests, preparation, and long-term progression.
- Beast and Transformation Skills: Players can unlock alternate physical forms such as Cow, Deer, Spider, Rabbit, Pig, Giant Bat, Werewolf and Spirit Fox. These forms introduce unique mechanics, like Beast Metabolism and Beast Speech, and are fully integrated into the broader progression system.
- Players may freely combine combat, trade, and transformation skills, resulting in character builds that range from spell-focused explorers to crafting specialists and shape-shifting adventurers.
- Skill-driven customization that allows builds to evolve organically through play.
- Two simultaneous combat bars for flexible ability loadouts.
- Exploration-focused zones filled with hidden secrets, puzzles, and branching paths.
- Deep crafting systems that support player-driven economies.
- Beast modes that meaningfully alter how players interact with the world and NPCs.
- A community-focused design that rewards cooperation and shared discovery.
The game is buy to play - pay once with no mandatory subscription. There is a demo, so you can try before you buy.
There is an “optional” sub known as VIP. It’s more support the games development, while providing the player with some additional storage, cosmetic pets, VIP in-game title, etc. No, it is not pay-to-win.
There is also an “optional” 3-extra character slot pack you could buy. “Not needed as one character can be most things”, however there are some cases where people may find extra characters worthwhile (storage mules, crafting alt, you like to keep your classes/outfits unique, you want to try one of the beast forms that is harder, or not possible, to change back from, or maybe you just want a dancer, musician or poet alt, etc.)
