Interesting - do they apply their bonuses to a solarian’s mote? I know there’s a soul fire fusion that does. The laser sight says it applies to small arms and a ranged weapon mote is considered to be a small arm so I guess it does?
One potential complication: if past experience is a guide, it can be difficult to find a merchant that sells the specific item you need.
Shouldn’t the bonuses from the Laser Sight be automatic? If I need an item to counteract the penalty from a game mechanic that is not fun (and soft cover penalties from allies are exactly that) then wouldn’t the game be more enjoyable without that rule?
Also, having to spend a move action and a charge to turn on the sight every hour just feels like an administrative headache. Kind of like darkvision goggles in PF2e.
Well I won’t be running up in front. I will be doing ranged attacks and waiting for stuff to come to us to whack it. So I will usually remain in position and let the rest of you go where you will before I position myself.
I downloaded Tech Revolution last night. There is a new Driver specialization for Operatives and there’s a new prospecting buggy that I bet would be helpful. I could see Alydia wanting to come to New Harmony to start over after the debacle with EJ Corp, the Gridiron Authority, Captain Maelchi and the Drow mafia (did I forget anyone?).
I guess we would probably never have the resources to build a mech.
If we went with the silver dragon patron I could bring back/reinvent Syzygy. That would be kind of cool.
There’s a new class option for Envoys in Tech Revolution that allows you to have a signature item but nothing really addresses the idea of said item being a musical instrument. Seems like a missed opportunity.
So I think what I’m going to do is reinvent my operative character to focus on culture and survival via the explorer specialization. There is also a xenolinguist exploit that I could take at level 2 that sounds like fun. Xenoarcheologist sounds like a fun theme.
I’m hoping we’ll discover a lost civilization at some point but if not this should still come in handy when dealing with other colonies.
Y’all let me know if I’m stepping on anyone else’s toes. If so I’ll make changes
So is hunting and tracking going to be a big thing in this AP? I was looking at the Hunter fighting style for Soldier, but I feel I would get more mileage out of other fighting styles unless there’s enough hunting and tracking to get much use out of Hunter.
I just watched the trailer for Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop. Looks super cool. That could’ve been Fly Free or Die. Oh well, those moisture vaporators on New Harmony aren’t gonna fix themselves!
Updated OP with link to the generic charter system. The list of patrons specific for Horizons of the Vast is the player’s guide (the silver dragon, AbadarCorp, etc).
Sesh Zero will be this weekend. We can talks about the charter system there and characters and stuff. And play New World.
Ok so I’m thinking it re rolling Niknak still and engineer, but being that we’re colony I might lean more towards a mor mechanical type build and a little less computer. Probably stick with ranged but would be open to suggestions to augment/support the group.
I haven’t done anything with Rod and drones, so can’t really give you much advice if you want to go that mechanic route. I guess it would really depend on more of the colony specifics’ on which type of mechanic would work best.
Well Computers isn’t in my list of skills for this character, but we can see tomorrow night what others are thinking for their skills.
Plus I know Rando said we could start higher than level 1 if we want but I had to book out to walk the dog so not sure if that got decided after I left or not.
