You certainly can run it in single play mode not sure if its for a private server or if in fact it can be the local machine . Didn’t search around too much but seems to be lots of settings for single play mode
You can play single player. it creates a sort of local server and saves your game state on your hard drive.
Epic seem to have changed their minds perhaps its because Steam have it on Sale now anyway
