I’ll give the inventor a go! You go ahead and cleric away!
I am gonna miss the regen spell and 10 minute heals out of combat
Yeah the out of combat healing probably won’t be as efficient.
The near endless pain was followed, finally, by near endless light. Oddly enough there was no tunnel. He didn’t know why that amused him. The near endless light was followed by a small patch of light of a different shade. He almost wished the pain was back. A voice spoke to him inside his head. “Do you still believe that mortals are better off not bartering with gods?” He mulled that over “Well…. I guess maybe it’s not nearly as bad as I’ve argued in the past.” he thought back at the disembodied voice. Is it really disembodied if it appears as a blob of different colored light? Does the blob of light count as a body? Probably doesn’t really matter one way or the other. The voice intruded on his internal dialog “I am willing to give you another chance.” Ok here we go, “What’s the catch?” There’s always a catch, that’s what I’ve always said. That’s why we shouldn’t be dealing with their lot. “No catch. Under the circumstances I think that would be counterproductive. If you want I will return you to your existence.” There’s the catch he thought, gonna make me ask for it. Probably worth it though considering the alternative, “Yeah, uhh, that would be cool. Thanks.”
The near endless light returned without the extra bit of light. He could feel himself again now, not the pain, just… weird. He was beginning to feel…. Compact?
He opened his eyes to a candle-lit vaulted ceiling. This place looks familiar. He could feel cool, hard stone under him. He rolled his head to one side and saw a small group of what he assumed was priests of some sort. He tried to speak but his throat was very dry and it came out as a croak. One of the priests hurried over with a cup of water. “Thank you. Good bedside manner.” he quipped. “Where am I?” The priest smiled and replied “Otari, more specifically in the temple. Do you know what happened to you?” That was an excellent question. It was quite the riddle, because he had no clue. “Errrrr.” he said in a dazzling display of intellect. “I really don’t know much of anything. Could you maybe help me out a bit?” She smiled again and nodded “When your friend Jared returned from the Gauntlight we were quite dismayed. I’m afraid he is the only one of your party who survived. On hearing of your unfortunate passing we started the ritual to bring you back. It was quite difficult since we didn’t have much to work with. We weren’t certain it would even work only having a few hairs from the pillow where you usually sleep here in town. The ritual was touch and go for awhile but I am glad to see that it worked. Does any of this ring a bell?”
Short version…. None of it did ring a bell. He knew things. Fairly non specific things like, he knew he was a dwarf, he knew he was a healer, he even knew Jared after a fashion, but not a lot else. After a week of recovery and trying to piece together his memory, he wasn’t much better off than that first day waking up. He would see people and know their names and know things about them, but he didn’t know HIS name. Jared said his name was Dr. Hammertime McRockpants. With an awesome name like that he HAD to be a dwarf, as anyone could plainly see anyway. It felt weird for some reason putting on his armor and shield. He fumbled around almost like he had never done it before. But the priestess said the stuff belonged to him, and it fit, so who was he to argue. Evidently some dwarven delegation from his home had paid for the ritual when they were in town a few weeks back and for some reason the church was supposed to keep it secret. That was the weirdest part… well other than not knowing who he was… why wouldn’t they want him to know he had a divine safety net? Well Sarenrae had seen fit to return him to the land of the living so he would serve her, just like he always had…. He assumed.
Bahahahah, Hammertime’s been brainwashed! Soulwashed? Soulnapped? Those pesky gods!
I put a spinny mini version in the discord vtt chat.
Also sending one of these without the base to @grapper to use as a token through discord.
Oh and one of the things that the story doesn’t point out but it happened behind the scenes: the reason that the ritual didn’t work correctly and he ended up with amnesia is because some of the hairs they got off the pillow were from his fake beard. So that threw the whole thing off a bit.
So I may still tweak a few things but basically here is what Doc has turned into: Halfling, Aasimar, Cloistered Cleric of Sarenrae with a Paladin dedication(this may change to one of the other Champion causes). Full Plate armor and steel shield (I couldn’t afford a sturdy one after my 2 magic item purchases). Staff of Healing and Sleeves of Storage. My healing consists of 5 level 3 Heals and 3 level 1 Heals. If that isn’t enough I can sprinkle in some more. I do have some offensive spells as well. I have WAY fewer skills than before. But I do have a high Charisma with Diplomacy and Intimidate. I still have Adopted Ancestry: with Unburdened Iron instead of Clan Pistol so I can move at my full 25. My out of combat healing is going to be Continual Recovery only for now, might squeeze in Ward Medic later if we need it. No battle medicine, my hands are full anyway. I will be a front liner. Good AC and Shield Block with Emblazon Armament on the shield to make it my Holy Symbol (so I can cast with both hands full) and 1 more hardness on the shield for my shield block reaction.
My biggest conundrum right now is what I’m going to do at level 6. I have a LOT of options and I know that is coming up quick. Lay on Hands and a second Focus Point, Divine Ally Shield for more blocking power… there are probably a few other options that I need to look at.
Oh and those 2 magic items are pending approval of course. I probably don’t NEED the sleeves of storage. Really the only thing I’m going to keep in there is my scimitar that I will never use and if I get a healer’s kit. I don’t know if the ones we had in the party loot were in Ugly’s bag of holding or Jared’s. Since I don’t do battle medicine I probably don’t need the kit on me anyway. I was just really close to the encumbrance limit and didn’t want to worry about it. I could swap that for a Sturdy Shield but I just don’t know.
@Daemoro
I grabbed your token. The staff and the sleeves are fine.
You’re all set
Intro blurb for Ikkik (goblin inventor):
Ikkik was tired. Well, he wasn’t, since he was riding Mechascorp, but he felt like he should have been! It’d been a long day! Of riding Mechascorp! It was a good thing that he’d made Mechascorp really fast. Otherwise, the stupid noisy people from Absalom might have caught up with him. That would probably have been bad. They might have tried to take his junk! He’d worked hard to scrounge up that junk and turn it into Good Stuff.
A little drool leaked from Ikkik’s mouth as he remembered the magical place where he’d spent the last several weeks. Until the noisy shouting people with their whistles and wooden clubs had chased him and Mechascorp away. Seriously, why’d they do that? No one wanted all that lovely junk, Ikkik had checked! It was the place where people threw the junk they DIDN’T want! Sooo, maybe there had been a few more explosions than normal recently, but it was in the name of Progress! Turning junk into Good Stuff! Stuff like Mechascorp! It wasn’t Ikkik’s fault that the stupid noisy people didn’t understand how the junk fit together to make glorious new Things and Stuff! They were probably racist. Lots of people were racist against goblins like Ikkik. They seemed to become even more racist when there were explosions involved. So silly.
Someday, he’d have his own Yard full of Junk! With an army of Mechascorps to keep noisy people away! In the mean time, he needed to find some new junk fast. Mechascorp could need repairs any day now! Really, it was just Ikkik’s constant tinkering that kept Mechascorp mostly together. Mechascorp was made of junk, after all. Sometimes it exploded. That’s OK though. Junk happens. He could always fix Mechascorp again!
Ikkik squinted at the horizon, shading his eyes against the setting sun. There was a town coming up soon; building shaped-shadows stretched towards him. He’d heard this town was called Otari. He hoped it was full of junk! It would be best if no one wanted the junk, so he could take it for the Making of Things. Things like Mechascorp! If there wasn’t any junk in the town, maybe there was some ruins or something nearby. Those always had junk in them! And noisy people with clubs wouldn’t chase him and Mechascorp away! Probably!
Magic items (I used the 270gp option to buy gear):
+1 Returning Starknife
+1 Striking Warhammer
Everburning torch (tied to Mechascorp, since it can’t see in the dark [yet])
Even buying the rest of the normal adventuring gear and particular kits/tools, I still have 50 gp left over. Not enough for a bag of holding, but that will be the first on the list of items when I do have enough cash.
rofl
I know where you can find plenty of junk, just have to kill some undead to get it…….
Sooooo how much down time are we going to have to recover and make new friends. Though I guess Hammer is still kind of with us.
Most of us don’t need much. I guess we could assume a week, since you need to tame Bently IV? Is that what you were getting at?
Bentley survived. I am considering changing him to an Ape so he has Bludgeoning damage or maybe time to teach him to slap with his claw so it’s not slashing damage any more
Hahaha! Yeah! Give 'em the back of your hand Bently!
Monk bear
Small tweak. I’m going to take the Hefty Hauler feat so I won’t need the sleeves right off the bat. So I can get a Sturdy Shield, Minor instead of them.
