15 bean soup recipe

Here is the recipe I used for my bean soup. Its actually almost identical to the one provided on the back of the dried bean package.

1 20oz pkg of 15 bean soup (I use Hurst’s HamBeens brand pkg of dried beans)
1 medium sized onion, diced
1 can 14oz Diced Tomatoes
1 tsp Chili powder
4 tbs of liquid lemon juice
3 tsp diced garlic (I used pre-diced garlic from jar)
Optional: 1lb meat
(I use pulled pork meat) or you can use ham, ham hocks or smoked sausage

Cooking:

  1. rinse beans
  2. put the rinsed beans in large pot with 10 cups water
  3. bring to rapid boil. Reduce heat, cover and continue to boil for about 1 1/2 hour, stir occasionally.
  4. after boiling, add ingredients and simmer covered for 30-45 minutes
  5. 1-2 minutes before cooking is complete, add any additional condiments or seasoning of choice (I used a small packet of Ham seasoning that was provided in the package of dried beans), salt & pepper to taste
