On race, I was leaning toward Iksar because their city is conveniently small and all classes are available there for spell purchases. But I really don’t like the idea of having to spend so many AAs to get melee stun resistance up. Plus I have a nostalgic affinity with Ogres as that was my tank back in the day.
So my plan is to go with an Ogre (stun resist) Shaman (buffs/dots/SoW) plus Paladin (LoH/tankiness) and pick up Wizard as the 3rd slot at level 10. Run that up high enough to get the Wizard ports which will give me relatively easy access to New Sebilis and all of the spell merchants there. Then switch 3rd slot to druid for the druid circles should I need them though this will mainly be to get additional AAs from leveling again. Final planned trio is going to be Shaman/Paladin/Monk just for the pure buff/tank/melee dps fun of it. After that, who knows?..
I’m thinking Barbarian Rogue/Warrior/Shaman for nostalgia. I spent a lot of time in that area back in the day. I wanted to do classes that Barbarians have naturally, as well. Build should cover dps/tank/slow/heals.
I had fun with a War/Brd/Dru, but after realizing how many AA points the bard needs, I think I will take Enc instead, and be able to play with charming also, and pickup the Enc pet which is War/Pal, trading the bard song dot for the pet damage.
I was also thinking to swap my Enc with Wiz each level until I get all the ports.
I think I heard that having bard levels passively allows you to move quicker. Anyone know if thats true? Maybe I should just keep what I know, War/Brd/Dru, lol, who knows..
The Sk/Wiz/Enc seems really nice as they are all synergized with int and can take Arcane Mastery 3, that may be a 2nd life run.
Ogre stun resist is not as good as expected, Frogs look awesome, have some great animations, and good starting stats, but Iksar while hated, have the same health regen as a troll, swim skill, and a couple other racial plusses, so planning Lizard all the way, sorry Froggy fans.
The current plan, which is always subject to change, is High Elf Paladin/Mage to start out. Will add Wizard as the third to get ports going. Will then backtrack and replace wizard with druid to get the other ports. Then shaman will replace druid. Next up I will replace the mage with a cleric.
The cleric might not be leveled up until difficulty goes high enough to need better healing. And all this might change before Tuesday.
I thought I was dialed in to be Ranger/Bard/Shaman, but now I am thinking I will be going Monk/Bard/Shaman. Still waffling in my head so going to have to come to a decision soon.
Im sticking with my live beta build Barbarian Shaman/Warrior/Wizard start…get wizzie to 25 get the ports then go Shaman/Warrior/Rogue. I was able to play that up to 25 in beta and I had fun! Maybe much later I could change out warrior to Shadow Knight, but thats much later. Ive always wondered how the all Barb class trio could go Cant wait to get started!
I kept starting new characters and trying out what seemed fun to me. Probably start with troll SK/sham but found the SK/Mage was pretty fun since the skelly pet always sucked (unless things have changed over the years and someone can tell me they’re viable now) and I even tried SK/chanter but found the only place to get tiny knives was Neriak so that was a bust. Guess I won’t be seeing anyone since I’ll be down in the swamp gathering bone chips Have fun everyone!
I’m pretty sure you can get the tiny daggers in the Iksar city of New Sebilis in the North Ro desert. Nobody is KOS there though you may have to sneak behind the vendor to get them to sell to you depending on your race/diety.
