Guild Banking 101

Guild Banking 101

The purpose of this post is to make sure that our members understand how the Guild Bank (GB) works. The GB provides all members with important resources that are both earned and shared by all. Understanding how the GB works allows everyone to help make sure that the resources it provides are always there when we need them. Whether you are using guild money to pay for your repairs, depositing items into the GB for others to use, withdrawal items for your own use, or participating in guild challenges; the GB provides opportunities for all members to share in its success. What follows is a list of questions, answers, and statements that provide information on how the GB works.

How does the guild bank make money?

The GB makes money in two ways.

Weekly Guild Challenges provide gold for the guild. There are currently four types.

  1. Dungeon Challenge
  2. Challenge Mode Dungeons
  3. Raid Challenge
  4. Battleground Challenge

To complete a Dungeon Challenge you must complete one dungeon with at least 3 guild members in the group and 250g will be deposited into the GB; limited to seven per week.

To complete a Challenge Mode Dungeon Challenge you must complete one challenge mode dungeon with at least 3 guild members in the group and 500g will be deposited into the GB; limited to three per week.

To complete a Raid Challenge you must kill a raid boss with 8/10 raid members in the guild or kill a raid boss on 25 player mode with 20/25 raid members in the guild and 1000g will be deposited into the GB; limited to one per week

To complete a Rated Battle Grounds Challenge you must win with 8/10 members in the guild and 500g will be deposited into the GB; limited to three per week.

Gold donations from members are not required, but are never turned down.

How many items am I allowed to take out of the guild bank?

Depending upon your rank in the guild, there is a limit to how many items you are allowed to take out of the GB per day. Within each tab of the GB at the bottom of the window it will tell you how many items you are currently allowed to remove from that tab. The top tab in the GB is reserved for the most valuable resources owned by the guild. Access to this tab is restricted to guild officers to ensure that guild resources are not misused, if you need something from this tab just ask an officer and they can usually get it for you. The GB is there for everyone to use and no one should ever feel bad about using guild resources. Also, remember that the GB and its resources are for OTG members only. Please do not remove items for friends that are outside of our guild.

Where can I find the Guild Bank?

The guild bank is located near the Auction House in every capitol city and can also be accessed for a short period of time through the guild perk: mobile banking.

Things to consider when donating items to the guild bank.

With level boosting, heirloom gear, bonus experience from guild perks and in game holidays; some of the items that use to fill our GB are no longer needed. Please consider the following when donating to the guild.

  1. Blizzard continues to make leveling alts easier and easier. Lower level bind on equip (BOE) items are almost obsolete and that includes a lot of the low level blue and purple BOE items. Current content BOE or crafted armor/weapon are always useful. There is some low level blue or purple quality items (wrist/boots/belts/hands/neck/rings) that are still useful for leveling. On rare occasions other low level items (head/chest/legs/shoulders/cloak) can still be useful for transmogrification. If there is an item that you want to donate, but does not fit the criteria you are always welcome to vendor it and put the money in the GB.

  2. Blizzard has also made profession leveling quite a bit easier over the years. Leveling cooking through the use of low level ingredients is no longer necessary. For this reason filling the GB up with these types of items is not helpful. Low level crafting mats (uncut gem/ore/cloth/herbs/etc) for all other professions are still sometimes useful, but only if they are donated in quantity.

  3. Current content potions/flask/gems/food/items enchants are very useful. All profession based recipes are useful. Older content potions/flask/gems/food/items enchants are are no longer useful. Locked chests of any level are always welcome as they provide gold for the guild.

  4. And finally, when you are donating to the GB, use common sense. If there is already an overabundance of an item that you wish to donate, please do not pile more on unless it is a current content item. Remember that you are always welcome to vendor any item that you wish to donate and simply deposit the money in the GB. A lot of the time, the gold is far more helpful than the 17 gems that you just cut while leveling your jewel crafting skill.

The OTG guild bank is there for the benefit of all OTG members. The more dungeons, raids, rated battle grounds, and challenge mode dungeons that we run together, the more gold we make for the guild. I encourage everyone to always check in guild first when you want to do these types of activities. By the same token, if you have something that will benefit other members and you want to donate it to the guild then by all means place it in the guild bank.
